Sometimes when I start my Touareg message "brake assistant workshop" pops up in the display, when it happends I just turn ignition off an restarts the engine and the problem is gone. This never pops up when driving.

I'm getting this fault message from vagcom:
02054 - Control module for differential locks (J647)
013 - Check fault codes - intermittent

I dont know if the fault message has anything to do with the problem...I have both differential lock in center and read diff (optional).

anyone with same problem?

Start fiat by checking that battery voltage is up to snuff especially when starting. That being said, this is probably cause by a failure of the rear diff control module. This is the reason my 04 was bought back by VW after the rear diff locked up on the highway in a turn. Not a good thing.

Just got it fixed. On the side of the rear differential (if you have a locking rear diff) on the drivers side is a small motor. I replaced the motor as a last fix, we'll almost last as I was guessing it was the ABS unit and was looking into replacing that before the rear stepper motor.

Anyway, it's an easy fix with 4 bolts and 2 connectors. The hard part is the price!
So replacing the motor fixed the issue?
Part number and cost if you can?

regards

After having this problem in more than two years I want to fix it. In the beginning the fault message pops up every time I start the car now.
The vagcom fault now is 003 Mechanical fault for the rear diff lock. I guess it is the stepper motor?
I also feel a lillte binding when turning in slow speed.

I removed fuse 23 and it seems to work. Note I had tried it before and it did not do anything. This time I removed it, locked the car for 1 minute, so all computer go to sleep and the warning is gone and the ABS works again. If it still works this way in three weeks I will cheer!

I tried pulling the fuse for the second time after the stealer ship quoted me $1600 to replace the stepper motor and the control unit. I told them that it was only the stepper motor based on my research and not the $660 control unit. I asked them if there was a way to simply bypass it, because I never use the feature, but they said that for liability issues they were not allowed to disable features........ I guess it was OK to let me go without functioning ABS. BTW what a stupid design that when the stepper motor is not working the ABS gets disabled.

I have same issue. Pulled fuse 23 and error is gone and my differential module is off line. What are the implication of this module being turned off in non off road driving. Or every day? Any?
