Same issue same side 2015 Touareg and same result from the dealer. Bloody outrageous and I am not forking out the $2250 they want. Seems to be a reasonably common problem. Sure some clever person will figure this out make themselves some money but it sure aint me - unfortunately!

The right hand DRL has partially failed on my 2015 treg.
Center part is working, the bottom edge is not.
Rang a dealer today and was told the LED not a replaceable item, so fix is a complete headlight $1400.
Seems odd that the LED has failed inside 4 years but insane that the 'fix' is complete assembly replacement.
I have the same issue and have taken it up with VW Australia as I believe that a car of the price should not suffer this type of failure. At first, they tried to convince me that this is a rare occurrence but that was easily proven as misinformation by pointing them to Club Touareg site. Told that in the age of the internet, company's can no longer hide behind such claims. VWA came back offering to do it if I agreed to come up with $660AUD. I refused and told that that was not good enough from a company as large as the VW Group and am awaiting an outcome. Will post when I hear back but don't simply accept that you have to pay!

I believe that some of the earlier models did not have the lower LED. This is proving to be a huge issue, particularly with MY15 models. VW needs to own up to the issue. Even cheap Chinese LED come with guarantees of 80,000 - 100,000 hours of continuous use. Mine failed at just over 40,000Kilometers:mad:

Could this issue be a manufacturing fault, that has been fixed on later model Touaregs?

Most of the people reporting issues look like theirs are either 2014 or 2015 models, with the one exception being 2016 (which could be an MY16 built in 2015).

Mine has a build of mid-Oct 2015 (ie MY16) and luckily does not have the failed LED issue that others have reported.

Can people with LED's who have the issue confirm the build dates of their Touaregs?

It would go great to determine if this is specific to vehicles that rolled off the production line during a specific period, that was resolved for later cars.
Mine was built 4th quarter 2014 MY15 and has sam issue, same side.

I have the same issue with my 2015 Touareg RH lower LED DRL. It failed in 2018 at only 36000KLM. VW Australia will not replace and claim this is not a common issue. I directed to the Club Touareg site to show that this simply was not the case. The dealer quote around AUD2500 to replace the headlamp assembly - crazy! I see so many on the road with the same issue and it appears to a common problem but mainly on 2015 models manufactured between July2014 and June 2015. I have also seen some with the LHS and even some with both out lower DRLS out. It is far more common than VW is prepared to admit.

Maybe we can launch a class action against VW for this issue?

Hi All,

I have been following this thread for any developments; my 2015 also has a failed DRL LED. I was wondering if anyone has tried swapping the LED drivers over from the working side, in order to determine if the LED driver is at fault as opposed to the bulb?

Ah ha! Made in China! Cheap parts for an expensive vehicle!!! Give me a break VW - does the LED come from China as well?

Hi Victor Blizzard,

Same deal here with RHS DRL dead on V8 R-Line 11/2014 build date.
Was going to contact VW Australia but seems like you haven't had much luck, let me know if you get any resolution.

I have disabled the LHS DRL via the VAG-COM software to bring the option on the MFI but it still comes on at night when you switch the head lights on, want to disable it completely as it looks stupid.
Hi Singh,

I would still get on to VW Aust as the more that complain and push the issue the better! They really need to hear from as many Touareg owners as possible. I am going to talk to a fellow via our local mens shed that has had a good deal of success as pushing vehicle manufacturers to accept liability for quality issues under AU consumer law. Will keep you posted.

This is obviously a real issue with late 2014, 2015 and early 2016 years. VW simply do not want to know. When they told me it was not a common issue, I provided them with a link to this thread and never received a response. They simply cannot mislead owners in light of our connectivity in the modern age!

If complete replacement is indeed the case that really is crackers.
100% that whole headlight requires replacement. I have harassed VW Australia about the issue as mine failed at only 35000Klm. I pointed them to this site to show that it is indeed a reasonably common issue but they are adamant that it is not a common issue. The dealer here wants $2250 + to fit a new headlight with no guarantee it will not happen again! Hassled VW Au with multiple complaints about the issue and they offered to replace it for $900. Not acceptable for a vehicle of this price and they came back with $650. Still have not resolved this issue and have my RH lower DRL out. I see so many 7P Touaregs with mostly the RH Lower DRL failed, a few with the LH and some with both failed but VW
Australia will not accept that this is an issue. I now have 85,000 Klm on the clock and still not resolution I am willing to accept. It is a case of mounting class action against them if only I could garner the support of our affected Touareg owners!

My neighbour has a 2016 Build Treg (June 16 build date) has both lower DRL's out so not just limited to 14/15 builds. However, I do note that here in Australia the part number has changed: Original: 7P0941751 has been replaced by: 7P0941753 Maybe this is an indication that they are aware of the issue but simply will not admit it!

Found my drivers side eyelash was not working 2 weeks ago on my 2016.
My warranty expired Sept 2019.
Took it into the dealer & asked for an application to claim it under goodwill.
They took the car in for the usual $180 diagnosis + $500 inspection (bar removal, wiring check etc) which they charge if they do not find any faults.
The goodwill warranty application needs the diagnosis & inspection reports, hence the extra money.
In the end VW agreed to 80% of the total cost of a replacement so its costing me $600 odd.
Better than the full freight for one!
Got the same offer from VW AU but but but, why should we pay for their technical issues? So you add all the cost up $180+500+600 makes $1280 all up. Seems like a raw deal to me!
