This is a first, but anything is possible in this motor. Do you have pictures of the damage?

Has any body heard of the plasma coating coming of the bore of the V10????
Need new motor any used V10"s around
Brian
I have often thought about what would happen to the blocks of our V10's if we had an issue with the cylinder bore's due to the plasma coating.
It seems like there are quite few blocks to complete motors from europe able to be purchased.
Some list Cylinder damage others claim to be running.
With a back ground in engine reconditioning i would be interested if the the block could be sleeved with a cast iron liner to repair the damaged cylinder?
I can think of a few issues but when it was stipped and taken to a engine shop they would advise you if it was possible.
Most engines still run iron cylinder liners the V10 is not the norm with plasma coating.

Thanx for the reply yes lining is a solution but not much meat in bore apparently damadge from somthing hitting the turbo impeller and landing in no 10 cylinder vw want nothing to do with claim all services dome at vw clain about R220.000 zar not a happy camper!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Are you guys sure about plasma coating? I just looked at brand new block, and it has cast-in steel liners. Isn't the plasma just a etching process for final bore finish ( like a final hone)?

I have not had a chance to see a bare block for a V10 and if it has cast in liners that would be great for repair of a block. Just get a suitable thin walled sleeve have it fitted and away you go.
But in all the information i have read the aluminium has the coating?
Still no disaster i would still try a sleeve.

Can you send some close up photos of the sleeves in the block maybe test with a magnet in the bores as i think the plasma like other types of coatings may flow over the top of the cylinder and appear to be a sleeve.

Here are few pics. The first one is of a V8 which shows the Alusil sleeve. The others are from a new V10 block and you can see the magnet sticks to it.
