First of all, hello. New member and possible soon to be Touareg owner! I have found a 2005 V8 Treg with 42k on the clock with every possible option I think, including air-ride and nav. It's for my wife, but I'm pretty much in love with it and want to get it. It's white with the brownish orange interior, beautiful! What do I have to look out for and what to look forward to?! Any good questions to ask the dealer or things to check out on the test drive? The nav system has no street names, can this be fixed with a newer disc? check the tires and and brakes, anything else? Look forward to getting to know everyone here better! Thanks in advance!

Assuming you're at a VW dealership ask for the service history. It will tell you if it has had any more than the usual maintenance and confirm that all TSBs have been done. If your not at a VW dealer take the VIN to the VW guys and ask the service dept. if they'll run the service history.

Street names appear on the MFD (on the dash) when in the Nav mode. Consider an extended warranty. Realize up front, the service will be expensive. I've owned mine for eighteen months, it has about the same milage. I am totally happy.

No...not strange at all on that vintage of Touareg. Whether it was a V6 like mine or the V8s, '04 and '05 did have some coil quality problems. It's such a well known issue that I replaced the entire set at the first sign of a mis-fire.

You will get a lot happier when you study this forum especially on DIY stuff.
It will save you a ton of money on maintenance and repairs.
I did and that is why I am still happy.
If I visited the dealer for everything it would be a different story (money wise)

However this is one of the greater SUV's made
