Okay so my coolant level is below the minimum mark, but my touareg isnt overheating or anything like that. However, I just want to do some preventative maintenance. I know I'm supposed to put G12 as the coolant color is pinkish/redish. But where can I get some from? Can I get some that's already premixed? Thanks

distilled water. if you're on your original expansion tank cap i would swap it out with a new one... the pressure release valve may be damaged. also considering how cheap it is, it's worth doing if it's eight years old.

+1

I asked my dealer when this happened to me over the summer and they said we can safely add distilled water and have the dealer take a look afterwards. Its not recommended by the dealer to mix with other coolants. Now, the validity of their recommendation....that's a whole another topic. But should you find yourself in a situation like that, distilled water is your friend.

If the Treg came with G12*, then stay with G12*; if it came with G13, then use G13. The 04 might have come with G12+?

If it is one of the G12 series just go to the local VW dealer and get the G12++ coolant G012A8G1G (the latest G12 series, a silicated organic acid coolant) and mix it with 50% distilled water. I asked if there were different G12s (G12, G12+, G12++), they said the -A8G (G12++) was the only one they carried.

The newest G13 is an eco friendly coolant that conserves natural resources or some sort.

Thanks I'll get it from the dealer soon. Should I just do a top off with the new coolant mixture once I get it?

I would recommend that you give your VIN number to the dealer and let them pull up any information on what the factory may have filled it with. Just to double check it is not G11 filled at the factory even if yours look pink not blue.

With a pink G12* type coolant, then there is no need to flush unless you are due for a coolant drain/refill every 5 years. Otherwise fill with 50% mixture of the G12++ and distilled water to the max line when cold.
