Today I decided to play around with my VCDS a bit and see what I can mess with in the Reg.

I stumbled across a very easy modification, that I have yet to see on the forum. This mod allows you to activate and de-activate the TPMS from your dashboard along with set two different pressures settings (partial and full load) which are selectable on the fly.

This really makes the TPMS much more of a friend than a foe. Being able to quickly set higher pressures while trailering and lower pressures for day to day, makes it so I can finally rely on TPMS in most situations. It also is handy to be able to disable it if I decide to off-road and drop pressure.

I made a DIY which is attached. If this has already been covered, please let me know, I must be blind!

This has been known for awhile on the T2's. I did my 2010 after I got it over two years ago. Nice feature imo.

Anyone try this on a t1?
Totally different systems, so no it will not work the same on the T1. There is not even a way to add the turn off feature in the MFI. That feature was available on very early 04's but disappeared. You either have TPMS in those or you disable it altogether.

I have the option to turn off TPMS in the MFI. Early 04. The owner before me must have activated that. It does leave an annoying icon on the MFI however.

You two have earlier 04's apparently that came that way. It was not an available option to VAG on the early systems. It went away in later 04's for my 04 V6 VIN 66,xxx did not have that option. I disabled mine all together in that car.

I did this mod on my 2010 TDI and see the new screens, but cannot select the two pressure options to change. Am I missing something here?
You shouldn't be able to change the pressures, just select which of the two you want active. Are you not seeing the pressure selection screen?

If the mod was done correctly you should have a selection for partial and full loads. I think, but I don't remember since it has been awhile, you can select actual pressures when setting it up. Then the two selections you have will have specific pressures applied to them.

Ah, I see said the blind man who picked up his hammer and saw......

Not to get into a tire pressure dispute, but TPMS doesn't appear to be very bright. I run 44lbs all around as I like fuel economy and better tire wear over comfort. I kept the default seetings of 39 & 46 (if I remember correctly) and TPMS does not complain. Seems like a pretty big span to me??

Honestly I think TPMS is rediculous and those pressures are not even close to actual reading. I bought a digital tire gauge thinking my dial indicator one was wrong since putting at and above the pressures would not shut the stupid system up. I have had my rears at 45 when it is supposed to read 43 and it still read it was too low.

My sensors are low by at least .5 PSI but depending on temperature can be off by up to 4 PSI very easily. I dont rely on the system for any actual measurements. It's really a safe guard for when my wife takes it out, tire pressure being the least of my concerns ;)
