The check engine light on my '04 V10 came on but when I scanned it there were no faults in the engine or transmission. I did an erase anyway but the light is still on. Why is the light on and how do I get it off? I was all excited about having fixed the TPMS system and now this comes up.

That could be the problem. Many off the shelf scan tools can only access OBD-2 codes for emissions related faults which is only a small fraction of the possible faults which could trigger a check engine light. I highly recommend Ross-Tech VAG COM.

I'm not slagging your scanner. If the light is on then you have a fault and it might take the factory scan tool to discover it. You might try scanning all modules for codes to see if they shows any fault like a poor communication with the instrument cluster. Are there any starting or drivability problems?

I can only suggest finding someone with VAG-COM or the dealer to scan for codes. I have seen some after market scan tools not be able to access all codes present or even cause communication to stall on the CANBUS.
