Changing Serpentine belt on 2012 3.0 TDI

Well I decided to change the serpentine belt on my 195,000 mile Touareg as I bought it 100,000 miles ago and had no idea of the history even though it looked good.
The one issue I had was the cables and plugs that have to be disconnected and the bracket that has to be loosened to get the old belt out and the new one in.
The really big thing was on the smaller plug to the street side had the release catch on the far side of the connector and very difficult or impossible to get your fingernail or a tool on the tab.
What I ended up doing was to bend a short piece of 1/8" welding wire to make a hook to reach around the plug and pull the tab in while pushing gently on the plug to get it out.
I had left the longer end bend and with a little kink so that I could control the location and keep it in contact with the tab.
I had to trim the hook to get it short enough to fit it through the gap available.
All I have to say is that the VW engineers live up to their reputation of making every job as irritating as possible.
My son the engineer for a major car company said "I design them, I don't work on them" Now that he has started working on his own cars his philosophy is shifting with every skinned knuckle.

Yea, it is a real pita. I think the method may be to put the front end in service mode. I have never done that, but may try it next time. You take the front bumper cover off, replace two of the bumper reinforcements bolts with a long 135mm bolt, remove the rest of the bumper bolts and some other things, and then slide the radiator forward ~120mm. That should make it easier.
Did you also replace the tensioner, and idler wheels? at that milage i would probably also replace water pump thermostat and coolant.

No, I have excellent fingers to detect bad bearings and gave them all a spin. Sometimes I believe in benign neglect.
As to all of the moving everything I just removed the rubber induction hose to bet better access and finally figured out the bent up welding rod to get to the release on the small plug. It tool a few rebends and clipping the rod to get it in proper alignment and allow putting pressure in the correct direction.
I think that this may save some time vs the other remove or move everything to get to them.
Once out of the way the belt was no problem.
The removed 100,000 (at least) mile belt looked almost a good as the new one.
What engine code do you have? On our CRCA over here it's a five minute job if you include getting the tools.
My engine for the 2012 3.0 TDI is CATA and it is a PITA.
