With a few days off over the holiday, I decided to give the Treg a Christmas gift and early 4th birthday gist. I am in the process of a full detail including clay bar. I try to do this once a year because Ohio winters take a toll on any car. In between these details I just wash and clean as needed. If anyone has not used a clay bar, I cannot recommend it enough. You will be amazed at what comes off your paint after you think that it is clean! This total detail takes probably 10 hours split over a couple days, but the results are amazing. I plan to finish tomorrow with two coats of 3M paste wax and then she will be ready for the rest of the winter. I have attached some links to some pictures I just uploaded to the site. Remember, this is before any wax! Also, if you are wondering about the interior, the car is Shadow Blue with a Teak interior. If you said to yourself that this was never offered as an option in the US, you are correct. This was a mistake VW made in early 2004 and it happened to be the exact color combo that we wanted. Believe it or not, we also got a great deal because the dealer was "doing VW a favor by getting rid of this mistake"! That was fine with us. 4 years of ownership and nearly 60,000 miles and we still love our Treg like day one.

Yep, I have an exotic/luxury car detailer here in Vegas (Granite) do the whole clay-bar scrub-down for me about a month go. Cost a couple bills and then some, but the results were phenomenal - they got rid of all those brush pinstripes, completely mirror appearance.

After beating up my 'Reg on lots of CA, Utah, Colorado trails, here is the results after a good clay-bar detail job! Not every week or month, but once a year, - I think its well worth it!

I am not sure I would take 10 hours for myself, but - maybe. I'd be interested in your clay-bar how-tos.

The 10 hours is for the complete detail and not just the clay bar. A good clay bar job only takes about an hour. The purpose of the clay bar is to give you the best prepared surface to accept the wax. It cleans the paint surface completely giving you a perfect starting point for the wax coats. The other aspects of the 10 hours would include a complete wash with undercarriage cleaning, complete engine bay detail, complete interior detail and the clay bar and wax on the exterior. The result is that the car looks brand new even at 4 years old and 60k miles. Friends and co-workers are blown away that the car is as old as it is and has 60k miles. People that do not know think that we just bought it.
