I have a 2004 v8 4.2l touareg and I have only owned it for about 1 week. Everything was going great until the other day when I went to start it. Everything is lighting up the battery is fine. The thing doesn't even crank. I am having a guy come and vag-com it tomorrow evening. I read all the threads about this issue but never really got solved. I was wondering if anyone has had this issue and what did they do to solve it. I already tried disconnecting the ground on the battery to reset the kessey module everyone speaks about and no luck. Any information would help. I'm thinking ignition switch or starter..would any of these show up on the scan?

All the lights are on when the ignition is on...usually after the engine starts the would turn off so I'm not sure if that is normal or not...I checked the fuses they all seem fine...is there one perticular one I should be checking?

If it wasnt complicated it wouldnt be such a sweet ride.

Check the button fuse under the front left seat.

12V is not a fully charged battery. I'd guess its 50% at best. Put a good charger on it for a couple of hours and try again.

There was also 3 faults found on the kessy module but he was having trouble connecting to it to the the details. Any feedback would help.

we put booster cables on it and had it sit like that for ten minutes an still nothing. but he did mention that those fault might go away if the engine would start. when he tested the voltage from his scanner it read 10.3v that was with out the boosters cables on. Mind you the vehicle was scanned with out the cables on. So I guess your right the low voltage is probably behind all those faults. I really wish I had got him to re scan it with the booster cables on because it was at 12.8v. Also if it was a battery issue wouldn't it have started with a boost?

also I noticed something on the scan that said kessy? I dont have keyless entry or buttons on my doors or push to start. Does my treg still have a kessy module that could create this problem? If so I have already tried disconnecting the ground wire to reset it but no luck. Do I have to disconnect both terminals to reset the kessy?

swap the battery, clear the codes.

Report back.

ok so heres the scoop. I took out the battery and took it to Canadian Tire (car part store in canada) to have it tested. It tested at 460 cca and the battery is rated at for 760 cca. He said the battery is fine and it should be enough to start the car. I told him to keep it and charge it. I just went back to pick it up and the test print out said 700 cca. So he said It is fine now. Ye....good thing I made him test it again..It was sitting off the charger for only 2 hours and the new test showed 360 cca...it dropped below half in only 1 hour of sitting. So i bought anew battery and I am going to install it right now...Is there anything i need to know before installing it? If it still doesnt start is there something im missing? I really hope its just the battery. Please advise.

So I installed the KNEW battery and still nothing not even a crank. Now im lost....thinking it is starter. Unless there is some sort of computer module that the ignition switch sends the current to before the starter? I rea alot about the kessy module failing which would cause this issue but im not sure I have one of those. I dont have keyless entry or push start or buttons on the door handles. Any help would be great before I tow it into the shop on wednesday. Thanks guys.

No crank with battery ok

Hi,

I had a similar event. Car didn't crank after 10min parked, batt voltage 12.7V on dash. Next day started fine. A weak later engine shut off while driving. Several attempts and 1 hour later cranked and started o.k. Had it towed to dealership.
They could repeat the effect and found problem with relays 614 and/or 433. Those are 50A/70A power relays located apparently under driver seat. Got them changed. Car cranks and starts now normally, at least for the past 8 days with daily rides no further problem
