I am brand new to Club Touareg and while I love my fully loaded 2004 V8, it sure has given me lots of problems. I recently had an oil change about 1,200kms ago. After doing a highway trip of 600kms during the day and as I pulled into town, I then smelled a burning smell and it then came into the cabin of the vehicle. When I opened the hood it was smoking. I looked underneath and there appears to be an engine oil leak by the front passenger tire. I haven't been able to locate it the exact origin. Any ideas on what the origin may be? It all appears to be at the bottom of the vehicle. The engine oil level is stil lin the safe area and no big spots underneath the vehicle on the driveway.

I read about a tandem pump leaking, but I am assuming that is only for V10 TDI's? Any help would be greatly appreciated!!

Do a search for leaking PCV valves on the AXQ V8...volkswagendude has written about this. its likely the source of your oil burn in cold weather.

I'm willing to bet both yours and the OP's problem is a valve cover leak. Those do eventually age over time, the valve cover gasket that is, and become hard and brittle. Like a fuse, it's the first thing to go, which is actually a good thing.

Go read my threads on PCV valve, as this is the final blow to an already weakening valve cover gasket.

To both the OP and you, please report back your results.

My was done under extended warranty in Canada. Gasket kit was only $35. There was 6 hrs labour at $108. I would replace PVC valve yourself. It's so easy. On eBay get the valve for $55 as dealer charges $180.

Also make sure job is done well. Namely that it does not drip after gasket replacement due to bad setting of cover or bolts tightening. Ask ago to was the engine on that side so that you can monitor it for week or two.

Mine was the PCV valve. My valve cover gaskets stayed intact. The video that was posted before on changing out the PCV valve was great. I bought a new one for $108 at Auto Value in Canada and replaced it myself. I don't have an oil leak anymore. Good luck!!
