8K interest plus a roughly 10K price difference between a discounted V8 and a new V6 TDI = $18K...that $18K buys a lot of fuel,...go buy up a discounted '08 V8 for low $40s and stick that throttle through the floorboards!!

53,324 which means in today's economy one should be able to get this for about 43k
As much as I'd like to believe this, with only 900 of them in the country and a near 30MPG I highly doubt VW is going to discount them by a penny....I'm sure there's enough pent up demand to sell them out. There are less than 1 per dealer. Also we can play "build your own" as much as we want, as far as I'm aware all 900 of the '09s are identically built.

It would have made 0 sense for them to even bother importing them if they were just going to subsidize them by 10K each...

I'm guessing with only 900 of them around, they probably have 900 cash buyers lined up with no need to give out good lease or finance rates. If your credit is good and you don't have the cash just buy the thing outright and pay the 2% or less on your line of credit...sell it in 36 mo and I'm sure you'll get 50-60% of what you paid for it.

I'd be curious to see what the real world prices are...the docks aren't full of VWs anymore (other than Routans), the supply glut that happened last year is gone (liquidated all the vehicles). Unlike the US automakers Japan and Germany scale back production when demand falls...so now supply=demand.

Siberian I usually agree with your viewpoints but on this one I just don't think they will give anyone 10K off...I know they aren't ultra rare exotics, but there is a lot of pent up demand for these...seeing as they sell at least 1000 touaregs a month, and that supply has dried up, and that there are only 900, I think they'll have enough buyers at close to MSRP...besides BMW and MB are not discounting their X5 or ML diesels by a dime.

The market has shifted to green, and people still have money...they will pay for Prius' and RX400h's and TDIs and CDIs and whatever BMW is calling their diesel.

My dealer originally said these TDIs would demand $5-7K over MSRP until I offered $1000 over invoice, then I got the $1500 counter offer.
IMO someone would have to be an idiot to pay over MSRP for anything...in fact I can't believe VW actually permits this with their dealers.

1000-1500 over invoice sounds fair...good deal for you + the stealership.

Good advice on shopping around for financing, bank rates are dirt cheap right now...
