Blue, Gray, or White? Pros/cons

I'm pretty close to pulling the trigger on a Treg.....what color is the next question.

I already have a silver SUV, and silver is just getting too common these days. That leaves:

Shadow Blue: I think the Treg looks great in this color. However, it'll show dings, scratches, and swirls. Plus it gets hot in the summer.

Offroad Grey: I haven't seen many in this color up close. Easier to keep clean.

White: I'd prefer a purer white like BMW's Alpine White, but white has the best durability. Cooler in summer, too.

How does the Blue Silver look in person?

Shadow Blue is very nice at summer time with the sun on it. In winter time isn't it that nice (my opinion).

If you take Black, do take Magic Black (Pearl effect). The normal black is a delicate colour for scratches and dirt.
In Europe we have Ravenna Blue, that's a very very nice colour !!

How do you maintain black?

I have a Shadow Blue and its an amazing color, but it does show every flaw if scratched. If I had a choice to pick my color again, I would probably take black. :)
I would think that Black would be even more unforgiving than a dark blue? I had a black sedan, and in the DC area, you had to park it far away so that knuckleheads wouldn't ding your doors. Plus, with lousy weather it was just too hard to keep clean.....

The gray is has got lots of green and blue specks in it... so depending on the angle of the sun, or lack thereof, it can appear gray or bluish gray. There's also some green in it too.

Cool color and requires less attention.

I agree with Spock on the silver. I personally don't like the blue silver, but the other one looks great.

I thought there was only one black in the US?
There is only one black in the USA color availability. Stef is from Belgium and he probably doesn't realize this. Of course, we don't know where exporter1 is from.

Indeed, Stef is from Belgium and here we have Black (=standard colour no extra pay) and Magic Black Pearl effect (= extra pay).
The standard black is an ordinary paint without special effects and isn’t a Metallic paint. The Magic Black Pearl is a more robust paint that can have some scratches and dirt without getting damaged..

I'm biased, but I think the white is the best colour: easy to keep clean (you can leave it a while before anyone notices it's dirty); with tinted windows, the high contrast makes a solid impression; cooler in summer; shouldn't be much trouble patching the paint up if necessary - matching the metallics/pearls will be painful; easier to see (except in the snow).

I like the impact that the massive white-on-white car makes. Saw a black one (black magic, I guess, as you can't get the non-pearl black here) on Saturday and it looked filthy, even though it probably wasn't much dustier than mine, which still looked fine.

I am biased but, I have OffRoad Grey, and i usually get compliments on the color. And i agree with SUVW with the specks of other colors to make it stand out from the other "grey" cars on the road. Plus it doesnt look as bad when you get it dirty on your off road excursions

Offroad Gray

I was going round and round on that decision too, and I decided on the Offroad Gray, so that I could get the Teak interior. After two trips to the farm with it's gravel road and one up into the bottom of Shenendoah National Park on a fire road for more mud and dust, the Treg is dusty but still looks nice with little more than last week's rain storms to wash some of the dust off. My previous VW was an Anthracite Blue (gray) Passat, and it did a good job hiding the DC grime and the inevitable dings.

I too am biased but I really like the campy white. As mentioned above it has benifits and isn't a bright white (too much surface area for a bright white IMHO). If I had it to do over, I'd go white w/teak again.

Colour choices

I as well like the Offroad Grey (it was my first choice). As mentioned by others, the grey changes shade/tone depending on the light, and still looks good dirty. As there aren't that many Touaregs in Toronto I've only seen one other Offroad Grey (2 Black, 1 wheat beige, 1 green).

As for the interior, I really like the look of the "teak" but I went with Anthracite to hide the dirt. Don't get me wrong, I like to keep my Touareg **** n' span but I am a cinematographer and Steadicam Operator so I am usually carrying lots of camera equipment/cases (I probably own every size of case Pelican Case has put out), and am getting myself into pretty crazy locations (like at the bottom of a rock quarry to shoot a GMC Silverado commercial, side of a mountain in winter to shoot a film, etc...).

The Offroad Gray is nice, but it does have some purple sparkles in the light. I agree w/ the poster who prefers the brighter white. Blue silver was my first choice, but I ended up w/ Reflex Silver. I am happy it turned out this way. The Silver is very, very light. I just got a chance to wash it after three weeks and it still looked clean. I could have just washed the windows and it would have been fine.

Yes, I'd say my three faves are Offroad Gray, Black and Reed Green. All colors which shouldn't get old too fast. I had a that lighter green Passat and got tired of it after a year.

Blue Silver is NICE! My V6 has it. While I thought it too baby blue at first, once I got it home, I fell in love with it. Like any silver, it does a great job a stealing color from the sky. It can be steel grey, pale green, dark blue silver and have nice reddish tones.

Tons of pictures of it on my website:

I am likely selling it for on offroad grey. They don't have anything that I want in Blue Silver in a V8 around here.
