I am working with my VW dealer on a deal for a 2012 Touareg TDI Sport w/ Nav. It is Black outside and Beige interior. Drives real smooth, no vibration wheel shake or anything (which is important - search my posts to find out about me ordeal with the 2011 TDI Lux I had). It's got just under 200 miles of test drives on it and I think they want to move it.

Offer is $47,307 for the truck with the basic options they all always seem to have (hitch, mats, etc). I calculate that puts it $109 more than dealer price on a MSRP of $50,575.

I am working on a deal to have extended 7/100 warranty added. Salesman told me he didn't think they would throw in the whole thing but he would check to see best price they would offer me.

What do you think - is this a good deal?

Also - anyone here think the black is the way to go, or should I go for a Galapagos or Canyon Grey. They don't have that at the dealership so it would require a dealer swap and I wouldn't be able to get the same pricing.

It does look real nice, but my concern living in the Northeast is that it shows dirt easily. I can only imagine snow and salt season.

Now I did own a black sedan years back and never had any complaints except it was a bit hot in the summer with the sun bouncing off a black hood and absorbing all the heat.

I'll have to see what they come back with on the warranty pricing.

So living in MN how many days do you think go by after a cleaning before its showing the dirt again.

Also - I've spent the past hour on Google searching for people's views on black. Many people's opinion is that smaller lower cars get dirty quicker. I am wondering if the taller truck is able to stay cleaner on the upper half and only really shows road spit down near the road.

My other Egg was a midnight blue and I don't remember to much issue with the dirt bothering me.

Dealers don't budge on price anymore.. seems like with the internet they are price fixing. the dealers will not slaughter eachother anymore. VW certified cars when I was looking all over the east cost all priced within a couple 100 bucks of eachother.

If you compared a vehicle with the same option and mileage they were about the same everywhere. I tried to negotiate the dealer said "nope thats the price." LOL.

of course if you go to a 2nd tier dealer or private sale... thats different.

Now, one guy in the auto industry I know said that the dealers VW etc... if they have a car that sits on the lot for 90 days it goes to auction. They still won't lower the price ?!?

Black is fine but you have to watch for swirls. If hand washed, a dirty sponge or soft cloth will create the swirls, which will be noticeable on black. A cool color that will never look outdated, similar to silver and white, just needs more care.

Waiting on my 2012 VR6 Sport /w nav in the same color combo (Black ext/ Cornsilk int). Love the combo and the lighter interior will be nice for summers. I'm not sure how big the $ difference is on TDI vs regular Sport, but I can tell you I paid right about $42,000 for mine last week (with zero interest). That's about $5k less than sticker, so that may give you a benchmark.
