Next on the drawing board is the snorkel build.
So I took out the air box and did some measuring and brainstorming.
There is unfortunately only one route to run the snorkel as see in the only few example I have seen.

As seem in Sumars instal.

And I'm not even going to mention the pitiful effort by vw experience.

Was very nice to see how clean the inner of the air box is. I think the added oil in the k&n filters helped a bit here.

You can see muddy water has gotten into the air box and the mark of a fair bit of water.

I am going to build new air box's and include pod filters. Haven't decided if I'm going to build two snorkels or link the box's together.

This is turning out to be a stonking thread!Bow Down

Mega!!

I think you should have some ram effect on the inlets rather than running them out into the car's slipstream as your mock-up appears to do though.

I drove one an auto highline couple of weeks back. Amazing - just like a Touareg but with a truck on the back. VERY quick off the mark.

Is that black standard VW or plastidip?

Mine a manual 2wd , but surprisingly has a rear diff lock. Drives really nicely. Turbo motor in the power band is pretty punchy. The bar is factory unpainted. But I am getting the car wrapped so it isn't a problem.

Seems very strange vw hasn't bought them to the states , especially with your love affair with pick ups.

Best bit is the tray back.

Sorted one of the two boxes , will add a seal to be water tight.

those air boxes look great!

Im assuming the reason they wont sell them here is because the mid-sized pickup is already well stocked with options, its to bad becasue if they offered a diesel amorak they would have the only mid-sized truck with a diesel available

One reason that they don't sell the Amarok here is the ”chicken tax”. In happier news, check out the Amarok Polar Expedition on the Web and you tube for some awesome off road build up ideas! I would love to learn more about how they modified those trucks.

+1 on the build on those Amoraks! I contacted a offroad shop in California and the said they could longtravel a touareg for 16k. Way out of my price range but cool none the less, once mine is paid for ill be a little less hesitant on more extreme modifications

Awesome , awesome awesome.
Love it when I motivate people to tackle things . I've got 3.5" on the way. Are you plumbing into the existing boxes ( which is doable) would just have to seal the lower inlet and give it a birthday to make it more watertight.
Keep me/ us posted on the progress.

I'm still unsure how I want to address the airbox, I've been think about going from my 3" snorkel to a coupler to a 6" aluminum tube with a k&n air filter inside to my stock intake tube

I did get the mounting bolt holes drilled, the black rubber you see will be a gasket material in between the mounting plates and fender
