You have something wrong. I had an 04 V6 I got rid of end of last year with 56K on it and still had the original battery in it. Do you have keyless access, meaning the black buttons on the outside of the door? If so the Kessy module could be going bad and causing a drain on the battery. If not keyless entry, there is something in there draining the battery.

 

What is this Kessy module? Is that the same as the access/start control module J518? I'm still working on the battery drain in my V10 and those black buttons don't work. Plus I have four permanent codes for access/start antenna interruption for all the antennas.

 

Yip, I agree with Yeti. My '04 still has it's original battery, although it is now on it's last legs. I'd probably have to replace it this coming winter.

 

yes i do have the keyless entry buttons on the door.

 

I have V8 '04 and just replaced battery. There is the TB talking about battery drain by the Navigation unit - it has to be updated to version 633 or 635. search the TBs and it will be there - from jan 09.

I needed to replace the front battery for the first time the other day. Batt date, Nov 28 04, exceptional use after so many years of extensive cycling with fridge and HF/VHF radio.

DIY repalcement was easy, 1 hour job and original VW Varta battery was AUD $320.

If your battery lasts only 2 years, they are Chinese rubbish with thin lead plates, also have some one check with Hydrometer and try to desulphacate the battery if it is rapidly discharged. Sulpher crystals build up and this provides resistance.

You need to break down the sulpher crystals back into the electrolyte, and this is done via a simple circuit.

Driving cycles also play a big part in battery life, high drain times with low charge times will greatly reduce the service life.

 

Funny this came up - I was playing with the vag com last night and for the first time - in ~6 years I saw the "shutting off consumers" or whatever the phrase is. It was after about 10 minutes, but still something new that suggests the battery is getting tired.

So - 2004 V8 with original just lasted me about 6 years - if it makes it to August - which I dont' think it will.

Now I"m off to find a thread on how to replace the battery.

 

i did notice the door locks acting up.. the day my battery died or drained, the day before it kept locking and itself over and over... might have to call dealer on this one.

I think it may be the original, it's made in Germany.
It has a number VA04810222515 any idea if that is the date code some how or anyone know how to tell if it's original.,
