Got the P2004 and P2005 codes today on the 2008 V8 with the CEL on. Got home and read the codes from the latest VAG-COM:

Mode 03: Emission related fault codes

Address 7E8: 2 Faults Found:
P2005 - Intake Manifold Flap; Bank 2: Stuck Open
P2004 - Intake Manifold Flap; Bank 1: Stuck Open

Read through this thread and checked whether I had the same plastic levers and it seems for the T2 or at least on my 2008 it's different as per picture below. I outlined in red the intake flapper motor (I think) and as you can see the links are now thin strips of aluminum.

I cleared the codes and will see if it's a cold weather problem (hope not as it's only -32F and a long way from -56F), transient or other as there was no snow anywhere near the engine bay.

Is there any lubricant you can spritz to prevent them from sticking?

Any other ideas???

Yeti, the dealer is 400 miles away and it's 32 below. Any constructive ideas? I haven't driven since I reset the code, we'll see if it reappears. Are those the intake flapper motors I circled?

As I said, it's only 35 below so we're barely heating here... speaking of which they delivered type 2 diesel for the house. THREE BUCKS EIGHT CENTS a gallon. Can you imagine??????? Our own oil at 3.08 a gallon? Poured in 561 gallons for a cool 1700 odd bucks... oh well, guess the CFO is out of luck for hot showers until spring

As to driving, there's snow on the ground, snow fog, snow kicked up by the odd vehicle in front, but no snow in the engine compartment. BTW those are the new motors on the picture right? You'll note the plastic levers are gone but they have C clip washers on the back so you have to remove both of them to be able to replace them.

Filters, you mean air filters?

Yes but they are replacements for the plastic arms, if you look at my picture above you'll notice that VW no longer makes the arms out of plastic. The whole system has changed from the T1s to the T2s.

Thanx for the pointer though

Thanx for clearing it up for me. Would grease (like heavy bearing grease) be better than graphite?

Hey, it's autumn and we're basking in -15F at the moment. Need to get more straw into the doggie houses soon.

Good point. I'll stick with graphite. Thanx for the pointers!

Just to clear it up, I'm posting a new pic with the correct labels for anyone else in need. This is for an 08 V8.

Thanx again!

The codes came back as temps hit -40F despite the graphite spritzes. What I did notice is there is a very slight like "clicking" sounds (with the engine off) coming from the intake manifold behind and above the intake flap motor. Any ideas?
