Hi

Apologies for this thread but i'm searching and not finding the answers. Long story short, i bought my car knowing one of the headlights was causing the AFS fault to appear on the dash but the cornering halogens always worked. The fault was the pivot motor which i replaced with a new old stock item and it worked fine for a while. The latest issue is not being able to communicate with the headlights with VCDS at all, cornering function doesn't work and the headlights only seem to move up and down but are lower than they should be. There are absolutely no warnings on the dash and obviously with no communications with VCDS its not making it easy to fix the fault.

What is the next course of action here, should i be poking around trying to find the controller wherever that is? The headlights were removed tonight and both sets of contacts have been cleaned but they are still the same so i'm guessing the controller is at fault :-(

Touareg headlamps have a bad habit of developing insulation defects inside the case. Is this something that may be the villain?

Why self destructing wiring is not considered a factory defect, is beyond all reason.

The problem was with Valeo the supplier of the assembly,
The faulty insulation is also in the Hella b-xenon headlight. I removed the harness, completely stripped the wires of any remaining insulation and recovered the wires with heat shrink.

However I have a faulty Right Swivel Module Position Sensor. This prevents the AFS from functioning correctly and throws the AFS message on startup.

I believe that some of the insulation has been caught in the Position Sensor or the sensor was damaged by the un-insulated wires.

I disassembled the light

By this statement, did you remove the lens or just the harness?

Broken left headlight now replaced with one which isn't cracked. Did a little bit more digging today namely around the fuses in the ends of the dashboard an found a strange anomaly. The fuse in the left side of the dashboard which controls the AFS cornering function was in tact but only one contact was present in the fuse box so its obviously not making a contact therefore no communications with controller. I know this used to be there as i have replaced this fuse before when i first got the car which worked for a while, but i have no idea how and why this has suddenly happened.

Is it easy to remove the fuse box without disturbing any other connections? I need to get this sorted but on the other hand i don't want to make the situation worse.

What fuse layout are you using?
I found that the fuse layout shown in the Manual does not match the actual fuse positions in the vehicle.

I use the fuse layout that I downloaded from eWin.
