I Have a 09 TDI. Is the Amsoil low ash formula ok vs factory castrol oil?

Thanks

all vw/audi diesels must use 507.00 approved oil except for non-DPF R5/V10 engines that need 505.01/506.01

Overall they have a good product line but would recommend an oil analysis to see what works best. There DEO 10/40 (oil meant for the heavy duty diesel pickups with modern post emissions equipment) is what I use in my V10. The VW specificied oils for my V10 were not working and that includes the Amsoil Euro blends but we are talking apples to oranges, hence oil analysis.

I went to the local Amsoil dealer today.
they recommend the mid "SAPS" (Sulphated as Phosphorus and Sulfur) SAE 5W-40

"recommended for for vehicles specifying ......505.01"

he offered me 12 quarts for $158 and will throw in a bottle of oil flush.
says the oil will work better after the flush?

anybody use this stuff?

Only problem is that's not the correct oil for the TDI. At least through 2010 unless they changed the specification. As far as I know 507.00 is the correct spec which is low ash content. Is your VW TDI older than 09?

This stuff claims:-
"Its potent, detergent-based formula cleans sludge and deposit build-up,"
Helps loosen sticky valves and rings, minimizing blow-by and reducing emissions
Helps quiet lifter noise
Promotes lower operating temperatures through sludge removal

My concern is if it flushes out the sludge and build-up, that stuff will be pumped through the engine bearings, that can't be good surely?

In the last week we have been in communication with VW germany.

See the purple text in my signature (That is what VW germany confirmed). Stick to that!

The correct Amsoil product for the 09 TDI Touareg is
European Car Formula 5W-30 Low-SAPS Synthetic Motor Oil Product Code: AELQT-EA
I like and use Amsoil product in most everything I own.
I really don't think the flush product they sell is necessary in this case.
The 09 TDI should have had synthetic oil in it for it entire life. Chances of slug build up is low. This product was more intended for higher mileage vehicle switching from conventional oil to synthetic. Tell who ever quoted you $158 to keep the flush and take $10 off. He probably has cases of it and doesn't know what to do with it.

No worries Ragman. I'm still learning about all this stuff as I'm new to the TDI world so its all good. Finally getting most of my small issues worked out with my TDI (mostly steering and suspension stuff) so feeling more comfortable with it now. Great vehicles and there really fun to drive.

LOL 4pekanini, I was thinking the other day how many times has that guy typed "All vw/audi engines must use 507.00 spec oil except non-DPF R5/V10 engines that must use 505.01/506.01"

good to see you have saved yourself some effort and included it in the sig'
