Air suspension change, original VS OE or OEM

Hi

Just bought my first Touareg.
Due to lot of use of salt and other chemicals in Norway during the winter the air suspension has to be changed at a certain point.
I bought mye car controlled and verified that all four Struts was OK.
Its a 2006 and only 117.000km verified by vag dealer.
Then after a few days use, I find the shocks not ok. The cars moves to much up and down in the back, like worn out shocks.(also in the front but not so much)

The air springs are fine and doing their jobb well.

Then, no one wants to change only the shocks cause they might damage the air spring when they take it apart. To me it seems possible with a new repair kit with new o- rings and a new tube?

So is was told to buy a complete strut as they said the spring might break in a year or so and they won't take the chance of taking the air spring off the old shock. Like every thing else in this .... country it so expensive. A complete strut from VAG dealer is priced 1900 Euro each ex labor...... ( now i understand why most of New Touaregs were delivered in Norway with normal springs as option)

I have tried to find my way thru the jungle of chinese parts, OEM parts and OE parts. Boiling down to only a few brands.
When not considering the chinese parts I'm only left with Bilstein OE and Miessler OEM from Germany(also serves the US market under many different brands. Revised struts with deposit for the old parts in return)

Bilstein is brand new and is possible to find for around 1.000 Euro. Ive been told these might even be better than original VAG?

Miessler around 650 Euros reconditioned/serviced original parts they say, so my concern is that I get a serviced strut with new air spring and with old shocks. My problem is the shocks not the spring :)

I want to save as much as possible on this change, but not on the cost of the cars characteristic.

I will bee happy for any input if anyone ever tested or used any of the above mentioned or tip of other brands with good quality not taking 6 months salary out of my pockets. OR if you might see another reason i experience this problem, maybe there might be something else.(no leaking air springs, lowering and lifting and adjusting in the spring modes)

I would prefer products possible to get from Europe, since the freight from US to NO is extreme high.

See there are many experienced people at this forum so i look forward to take part of your knowledge
In advance thanks!!!

If you do consider eventually to buy from China I can help you buy directly from a factory which makes a very high quality products (I'll give you the sales person direct WhatsApp and you will take it from there).
BTW, you also need to consider that when buying a rebuilt strut from Miessler you need to send back your old shock or pay additional 200 Euro.

Thanks BruceTDI!

Im aware of the send back/deposit. My problem is they can't confirm the shocks are new in these rebuilt, only that the hairspring is new, so i might end up the same as today, airprint that works and and a shock thats old and worn......

I have heard some people change to China versions, (Cause they are very cheap, Ebay is full of them) loosing all their driving comfort like in the original struts, and they lasted in the salty roads i Norway for about 6-12 months. I have two examples of that, but dont know from whom on eBay they bought. And there is off course variations in quality from china to. What kind of price level are we talking about in these China models?( complete strut Back)
The salt is what kills the struts up here, the brass valve in the top, connected to aluminium, alone thats not very lasting. To put these metals together and add salt on top of that it has half a life time compared to varmer countries.

I found Aerosus from us now with only $35 in shipping. Any experience with does compared to original og Bilstein?

After a bit more reading it seems some people very experienced with struts, claims that aerosus, Miesser and arnott is all chinese produced.
some also claims Miessler is ok for a year, and then start to get worn. This sounds like chine to me :)

" audiworld.com/forums/audi-allroad-18/warning-about-new-arnott-allroad-shock-absorbers-2882973/ "

then if thats correct, I'm only left with expensive Bilstein and VERY expensive original VAG...........

Thanks Toiler!

for most users here up north this is the biggest problem, espesially in the front suspension cause of the angle of the brass valve collecting salt/water.

My problem is the shocks, they work like driving an old Omega... The air springs is fine.

Seems like i found 4 "new" complete original suspensions from Poland, Original VAG only run 35.000km.
I will change complete all 4 since the air springs never been changed.

I will take your advice Toiler and provide a good lasting barrier so it can withstand our environment better.

So have to wait for new suspensions and change them.
