Our '08 is now about 3 weeks out of warranty, and now when we start it, it says "air bag fault" and the air bag icon stays on.

Any thoughts on this?

Thanks for the suggestion. It does make the seat belt icon go away when I buckle up, and the air bag light stays on if I buckle up or not. The air bag light never came on when I did not use my seat belt before. I'm still not understanding how the buckle has any relation to the air bag fault light.

Hey there I have an 08 also with the same problem it is from the drivers seat belt the relay has gone bad it over 500.00 to fix it ugh really
Bingo, but $398.00 to fix. Driver's side buckle receiver. I am buying the part for $90 and installing it myself, they said they would be glad to clear the code. Can any code reader that any parts store has reset the fault code form an airbag fault or is dealer / VAG COM only?

Thanks for the seat tips! I will need to move the seat to access the buckle assy.

Don't follow that video completely - the guy takes the seat out and that is NOT necessary!!

The seat is hinged at the rear.

You remove two plastic trims at the rear of the seat to give the seat clearance for the hingeing operation.

Then you remove the two plastic plates on the floor at the front of the seat.

Then you undo the two floor bolts revealed by removing those plates and the seat hinges back giving you plenty of room to replace the battery.

BUT . . . DO NOT ATTEMPT TO UNDO THOSE TWO FLOOR BOLTS UNLESS YOU HAVE EXACTLY THE CORRECT TOOL!!

And you have seated it into the bolt head really well!!!
Are we talking hex, star, Torx, or what? Large? I can pick up an assortment on my way to my shop later.

Sounds good. This is most likely the issue I've been having, but haven't been able to scan for codes yet. I need to replace my battery soon anyways.
So they are keeping it over night to try a "good will" case with VW since its 3 weeks out of warranty. I'll post that part number tomorrow.

Good evening, can you post the part number pls?
thank you
I'm really sorry. I meant to do this but it was serviced under "good will" and free of charge because it was so close to warranty. If this is not the PN, let me know.
