Adblue Mileage

Just curious how long a full tank of Adblue is opposed to last. I was under the impression about 10K miles. VW dealer claims it was topped off at the last Oil Change (20K Miles) but at about 24,500 I got the warning light that I needed to top off again. I had the small container at home, so I took care of it. I also bought a large container of it (for $18) and finished filling it up. Just curious what others have experienced.

On my 2010 I seemed to get between 4000 to 7000 miles, depending on my driving.

Hopefully, you don't have the dreaded Ad-Blue fault starting.

Did it say you had 750 miles left?

Has it come on again?

Does it come on with the mileage remaining every time that you start it?

Owners manual suggests that a full tank of AdBlue should last up to 15k. Other than the common 700 mile false alarm, mine was topped up at the 10k service. Work sheet didn't specify how much they put in, but I can say there was no low fluid warning at 10K. So I'm inclined to believe the 15k that can be extrapolated from the manual.

They'll top it up again at 20k and at 30k. So I reckon I'll go the life of my 3/36k warranty without spending a cent on AdBlue.

Could altitude play a role? I drove about 4,000 miles from Philly thru the Southwest, then up to Marin County in NorCal, and didn't us much at all. Mostly highway and at a variety of speeds, but sometimes 80/85.
Fantastic car!

What I'm wondering is if the older two-tank system plays a role here. Mine's a single tank under the spare tire. But I understand that earlier Touaregs had two tanks, filled from a single point. Further, the passage between the two tanks was slow - resulting in a lot of folks not actually knowing whether or not they ever filled up the entire capacity.

Can't say I've ever had any filling issue..my tank is under the spare tire, using the factory bottle as a funnel, it'll keep taking fluid until its full. You'll know its full when the bottle still has some fluid in it but the tank won't accept any more fluid.

I use adblue purchased at the local fuel station (its around $11/2.5gal jug) and I use a VW bottle with the bottom cut off it. Usually takes 4 gal when the warning first shows up.
