G'day
Can it be used to monitor functions like transmission oil temperature?
And if so, can it be used while mobile?
Thanks
kevin

Hi kev11e
The VCDS can monitor almost anything, even when driving, but the obviously the passenger will operate the PC. It aslo got a logging function and you can export it to excel or pull up a real-time graph in the VCDS as well.

Ross Tech have a mobile version in the works but its not available yet.

G'day
Ordered a VCDS gadget today...wish me luck, coz I'm not the sharpest tool in the shed :)

Pretty straightforward ti use Kev. Make sure you make a note if what exactly you are about to change.
Did you pickup the cable from brookvale here in Sydney?

G'day Singh,
more interested in recording stuff...but you never know....
And yes, from Brookvale. I had an email exchange with Ross-tech in which they said they preferred we use their agents...
Now, where in the car is the plug again?
:)
Regards

Lower left of the dash...(LHD Continental Europe's driver side)...it should be at the very edge of the dash for both right hand drive and lhd vehicles

?

On my right hand drive car it is a purple plug on the underside of the dashboard in line with the accelerator pedal.

Open the door, get you head on the floor facing the pedals and then look up!

I stand corrected (wanted to edit my previous post because it wasn't precise/impossible to do with the ipad app), yes it is at the lower edge of the dashboard wherever your steering wheel is, left or right...it is always on driver's side...

Yup - as others have said it can do that, log it and play it back too. Certainly not a replacement but something that might be better for vitals monitoring is a ScanGauge. ScanGauge - Trip Computer + Digitial Gauges + ScanTools

I've been thinking about getting one before we get a travel trailer. Lots of folks on the tdiclub site seem to like them.

If you have a smartphone iphone/android there are apps that can be coupled with an ELM327 bluetooth (android) or wifi (iphone) that do exactly that....problem is that any device, the above or the ones I'm mentioning, can only exploit sensors that are already active on the car...unfortunately as I found out trans temp isn't included at least with my 2005 treg... The good thing is that they are very cheap 12-15$ for the BT dongle (it gets power from the OBD2 port where it connects) and 5$ for the TorquePro app...I'm still looking into it to find extra functionality...
