ID label under hood by grill gives the capacities,pass side,
700+50 grams for 2 zone,1 evap
1050+50 grams for 4 zone,2 evaps

charging ports are on drivers side near fire wall,by power steering resevoir,and near the under hood battery boost connections,Marty

Depiry, would you suggest recharging the ac personally instead of going to the dealership? I have done this before but never on a vw. How can you tell how many grams of freon your are adding and how many are still in the system? Is it possible to damage the system by adding too much?

Just to clarify, what do you mean by "invert the can"? Turn it up-side-down? What will happen if the can is inverted?
