I would like to disable the hill hold feature on a 2013 US spec Touareg. I have spent a few hours muddling about in the ABS module (byte 16) and cannot seem to get it sorted.

Can anyone assist?

Thank you - Chris

Do you mean when you're stopped on an incline and the trans shifts into second gear? or do you mean auto hold, which applies the brakes when stopped? If the former, I don't believe theres anyway to disable that coding.

Unfortunately - it is when the brakes are applied to prevent rollback.

I can change the coding to make it more aggressive (more throttle applied to release). However, I have spent hours playing with the coding and can not find a solution that will disable.

Thank you for your response!

Change byte 16 from 77 to 73 in 03-brakes module. Will disable the autohold. Or turn the switch off.

It's the transmission shifting into second gear when you come to a stop on an incline. Not possible to code out. Either apply more throttle, or manually shift into first gear. If the ATF temp is below 10*C, the parking brake is used until the temp passes 10*C.

@chewblekka: Thank you - the parking brake is being applied and releases with throttle. I can change the coding to impact the amount of throttle needed to release - but have been unable to delete the function.

It is my daughter's truck which I purchased for her new - she just moved into a hilly neighborhood and is complaining about the function.

I will reach out to Mark Malone to see if he is able to work his magic.

Thank you again.

FWIW, I have a cdn spec 2012 (came with auto hold from factory) and when auto hold is off, the hill hold does not engage either second gear (I have gear display so can monitor that) or the parking brake (neither the dash nor the brake lights come on, and there is no sound of it engaging or disengaging), it seems to only engage the brakes through the ABS (same as when autohold is engaged). It works exactly like my owners manual describes its operation, and btw, I’m very pleased with it.

the gear indicator doesn’t show second gear when hill hold is activated. If you check with VCDS, you’ll see that second gear is engaged though.

Sorry, but I checked it again a number of times on a steep hill today, and same thing, it stays in first (watch the revs as it unlocks, note the shifts, the gears totally agree with the display), and comes off an ABS lockup, not parking brake.
