Question to all, opinion from anyone.

Those who have either worked on, or driven an air suspension 7L Touareg and a 7P touareg, or worked on and driven both have you noticed the clear difference in suspension from the 7L to the 7P.

What I am taking about is as good of a vehicle the 7L is even when the suspension is new it is quite noisy over rough roads. Ride is still fine but noisy.

The 7P on the other hand is very quiet over over rough roads and still rides very well.

Having worked on both in the suspension area they are both near identical in most ways except the air strut itself which is of a similar but visiblably diffent layout. The other noticeable difference is the lower control arms are cast alloy on the 7P and cast steel on the 7L. Even the suspension carrier on both is what i would say is identical.
So what makes the suspension quiteter on the 7P the different strut, the alloy lower control arm, or a combination of both ?

Visually the 7L & 7P control arms look the same to identical. I think even the first Q7 model of the same era as the 7L had alloy lower control arms, though I cannot speak to their suspension noise. I hope to see if an alloy arm can be fitted to a 7L to see if it makes any difference.

I have no first hand experience, but I would think that the reduced weight would be a factor..... and didn't they also omit the upper wishbone mount that had previously housed both the shock and upper wishbone in one? I'm sure there were other changes that I can't think of on the spot too....
