2016 VW Touareg TDI LUX code P226D

Check engine light came on a couple of weeks ago with this code. Pulled code then cleared just in case it was an anomaly. Check engine light came back on a few days ago. Got the same code. Made and appointment with the VW dealer as I only have 49,000 miles on car. I noticed some type of dry ash mixed with dry DEF(if that makes any sense) on the inside of the exhaust tips recently that coincides with the check engine light. I youtube video searched that code P226D and got a video with a Cayenne owner that had the same code and it turned out to be the diesel particulate filter needing replaced. They did his under the warranty.
Has anyone else had this problem? My prior 2015 Touareg TDI that I sold with 174k on it never had any problems even after the software updates that destroyed these cars.

Never reset codes. Take it to the dealer.

It's extremely unlikely that the DPF is crapped out at such low mileage. Sounds like a bunch of clowns are diagnosing\fixing it.
If you (or he) have access to the vehicle, go scan it yourself and look at the details of the DPF, etc. He could potentially be using his vehicle while waiting indefinitely for this unicorn part to arrive. I'd be raging hard if it was me.

Well both of mine were low miles too. He even called and spoke with VW, was told not much they can do, each dealership is independently owned. Here's the kicker I called someone I know in VW parts, the DPF is available at some dealers nation wide but they can't be sent to dealers needing them for warranty work. Last time I called I was told 300 are on backorder for customer's vehicles, while some dealers have them in stock.

Just because parts cannon loading monkeys say they need replacement, doesn't necessarily mean that.
We have user data showing that the same DPF can (and usually does) last a significantly longer time

My 2014 Treg TDI (138,000 mi) had this code pop up yesterday. Can’t get it in at the dealer until Monday next and have to drive about 450 miles roundtrip to move my daughter into university this weekend. I’m I gonna mess up anything by driving it for the next 6 days? Or just pollute a bit more.

Hard to say. Driving with emissions issues is a gamble every single time

given that everyone on this preexisting thread seemed to understand what this code is, it seemed redundant to say it. But since you seem to require it to respond in a helpful way, the description of the code I found online is as follows:

Particulate Filter Deteriorated/Missing Substrate Bank 1 has been detected.

I’m not a VW mechanic. My Treg was modified with all the diesel-gate fixes before I bought it. It’s not driving any different although there was a very slightly rougher idle just before the CEL came on.
this is my favorite vehicle I’ve ever owned and I’m committed to keeping it going as long as humanly possible. So, I don’t want to cause damage by driving it when the DPF is apparently deteriorated. But at the same time, I need to drive it - if possible- to move my daughter into university. If it’s simply a question of extra air pollution, I’ll feel a little bad but will get over it.

So actually helpful/informative responses greatly appreciated. Unhelpful responses … not so much.

Agree with Savage. Wouldn't drive it until fixed.
