2016 Touareg RNS Manual

Hello,

In June of this year we traded our 2012 Tiguan for a Touareg. Our Tiguan came with both an owner's manual and a manual for the Radio Navigation System as well as the cables to interface to an iPod. This vehicle came with just the owner's manual and nothing for the RNS 850 system.

The salesman managed to get an interface cable however he ordered it through VW parts.

Despite numerous attempts to get a manual the dealership is telling me that none of the Touareg's they have on their lot have a manual and the pool they use to access manuals does not list it? I have been after this manual since June and my patience has run out. I will purchase it if I have to I just can't seem to find out if it even exists.

Has anyone had an issue getting this manual?

Thanks!

Thanks for the reply!

I have been searching for a manual since June. The best I can find online are dealership PDF's and the odd video. As I am familiar with the RNS system (both the older Touareg and the Tiguan had it) so I am not totally ignorant of it's capabilities however this version has a hard drive, two SD cards and apparently I can transfer my music to the hard drive.

I don't understand why VW did not supply any manuals to any of the the Touareg's that are in stock at the dealership, when they contacted VW Canada they said it was the first they had heard of it and when they contacted me they said they would look into it further? This is why I was curious as to if anyone else who purchased a 2016 Touareg was also missing a manual.

I would expect a brand new vehicle to come with all the associated manuals. I have read the RNS system can have voice activated navigation and screen captures that are stored as png files on SD card 1. If this is true I would like to know how to use it. I also have an issue that if I select Mix for the current playlist on my iPod the minute the key is turned off it reverts back to sequential play? My Tiguan kept the mix for at least the day so I wonder if there is an option for that.

Why are the pdf manuals even behind a firewall?

VW, pull your head out of your vintage 1978 rear end and just post all the manuals online. Don't harass you customers and potential customers by being so lame.

I received an email from a gentleman at the dealership and he now has a part number to order the manual. There is none in stock but at least this time I might actually receive it. Thanks for all the assistance and links, I believe this led to resolving my issue. I still don't understand however how it could not have come with one in the first place.

I purchased a 2016 Touareg in June (trading in my 04 v8), and there was no manual for the radio. I checked everywhere and could not find one. The closest I found was on eBay (pics here in this thread) of a 2014 version from the UK. It was able to answer my questions - specifically, what audio codecs are supported for importing to the hard drive. I also found it very irritating that you cannot rip music directly from CD.

I just picked up a new 2017 (Canadian) t3 (or is it t4). It came with the RNS 850 manual. I do not have it on hand but I believe it is dated 2015.

I can tell you that the manual is terrible, it contains very little information and is hard to read/written poorly. It is nothing like the Owners manual and after one flick through I put it away, for good.

I really wouldn't bother with it.

Thanks for the feedback, mine has a hard drive and I was interested in using it for music instead of an iPod. It has two SD cards as well. I imagine I can transfer music from the SD cards to the hard drive so that is what I was interested in. The dealership claimed they would provide a manual but they haven't and VW Canada was useless as well so trial and error then.
