Hey Jolly2,

Just got myself a 14 Touareg Tech-R, loving it. I've not done the upgrade myself, however iPhone's don't have RSAP. My Touareg does have a SIM slot in there, however from reading notes on here, it disables Bluetooth handsfree (can someone confirm?).

They also mentioned that you have to disable FairMode.
AlexCF, from all i have read iPhone does not have RSAP if you use the built in SIM slot, it prevents iPhone from establishing a BT connection so no hands free.
To test I bought a pay as you go SIM from o2 for £10, so far no success.
I will do a search again for how to disable fairmode ? if you have come across how to do this I would be gratefull, for the info

I went into the green menu and select googleearth/console
Tried selecting start and get the following message "GEMMI not installed"

I would post a picture but drag and drop not working :frown2:

From the tutorial:

For systems that have built‐in SIM, the procedure should be almost the same (at least this has been
tested by Windstar). Of course the part related to router configuration is not applicable.
The only difference is that from Green Menu it is necessary to uninstall the Fairmode or, if preferred,
disable the Install Fairmode inside the install script.

If you search for greenon here, you should find the script!

On another note... Partial fail on my upgrade, my own fault. Dropped the SD card down the seat, and managed to get it stuck under the seat runner. ARGH.

AlexCF, I can not find anything called Fairmode in the green menu. Could you describe where it is. I did find info on NAD had to be activated I have check both options.
I am not sure what to do, when it states run the script. Do I do this in the green menu.
For example I tried installing the UNINSTAL folder 4 I think it is, but do I then have to make a selection in the green menu, to uninstall ?.

Where I am at the moment, the NAV screen shows in the bottom rh corner "Google" but if I go into the map selection Google is greyed out, it does have a tick beside it.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Finally found where to disable "Fairmode" it's in the green menu under config. Uninstalled fairmode, there was a list of files being removed and then just sat there. Should there be a uninstall complete message.

GoogleEarth still greyed out. Even after reboot

So still trying to access googlemaps

Did you install the Diagnostic scripts? If so, try and check out from Green Menu Config -> Show IP Config, and check the information in there, you should be able to see whether you've got Internet access on the car.

I went down the route of using wired network, rather than using WLAN. I used the TP-Link 3020 with OpenWRT, bridging my iPhone as a test. That worked great, so I have ordered a 3G dongle from Amazon (£30) to utilise that. I'm not overly comfortable using WLAN, and having that open :)

Diagnostic and Trouble shooting
In case the internet connection is not established, the Diagnostic script is quite useful in order to
understand the situation. Once installed, the Diagnostic script shall be executed from the Green Menu:
Green Menu  Config  Show IP Config
If installation is correct, the following should be your situation:
MMI IP: 192.168.1.1
Gatway: 192.168.2.1
All PING: OK
The first PING is configured to RNS850 Gatway 192.168.2.1; if this is OK and the other are KO, this
means that most likely your config is correct but no data is available from your SIM.
Check if you can access internet from a laptop when connected to the Ethernet cable of the router.
PING sites can be edited in the Diagnostic script by editing the getStatus.sh file (this of course requires a
reinstall of the diagnostic script).

Hi AlexCF,
just tried the diagnostic script and I am connected to the net, via the sim. Ping test as follows
KO PING 192.168.2.1 average 325 ms
OK www.google.com average 325 ms
OK d.hpc.gtm.fti.net average 275 ms
Ok sfr.fr average 238 ms
OK www.bouygues.com average 250 ms
Ok www.free.fr average 703 ms
Even connect to the in car wifi and surfed the net, so it would appear the network is ok
checked config/console
MMI ip 192.168.1.1
mmi ip by dhcp
mmi gateway 10.0.0.1
dns 8.8.8.8 8.8.4.4
Cache google earth 4%
so I am really struggling now

hi Alex, i did manage to find the APN for google its

payandgo.o2.co.uk
username payandgo
password payandgo

now when i run the diagnostic I get replies from Google etc, but the first line which is local address 192.168.2.1 it gets KO no reply time. Not clear what you mean by connecting to wifi,
I am using a data sim in the glove box unit, to late to go check the car now.
i did uncheck the list as per the info on the pdf file

i really appreciate your input thanks

Still cantget Google to load

Hi hopefully someone can help. Still can't get Google to load.
Have unistalled Fairmode.

Tried installing data sim in in glove box sim,
In greenmenu > Ipsetup scrolled down to ping test did get replies from google.com etc, The local addrees the first line of the test 192.168.2.1 KO was reply. Occasionally get valid replies from google.com etc

If I go into normal menu select connections -> w/Lan internet -> current connection, it reports connected, and there is upload and download (no idea what the data is for or from) very slow increments higher, total data after a couple hours 2M/bs

Can't find anyway of checking it is a 4g connection, so dug out an old Blackberry Q10 shows a 4G connection. Then enabled rSAP, no longer can see if it's 4G.

Repeated the test as with the onboard sim in the glove compartment. Same results. So totally at a loss, on how to move forwards.

Any suggestions greatly appreciated.

Hey,

Get the MR3020, it's cheap and works fine. If you want to spend a bit more, and actually it's a bit more helpful which is the MR3040, as it has a battery pack.

What I've got is:
USB dongle, UGREEN from Amazon
MR3020
Anker charger socket
MMI USB cable
3/4G Huawei device which runs CDC/HiLink. Easy to find on Amazon.

I installed OpenWRT version 15.05.01 (whatever is current). Once installed, you need to do a few things (I've assumed the reader of this has good knowledge of networking/OpenWRT):
1) Connect your laptop via a wired connection, it may DHCP to a 192.168.1.0/24 address, but if not, set as .2
2) Set the password on the device, otherwise SSH will not work.
3) Connect OpenWRT to your local WiFi (Network->WiFi) so that you can get some internet connectivity
4) Download putty if you do not have an SSH client (for PC) or on Mac use Terminal, and SSH to 192.168.1.1, user root, the password is whatever you set.
5) Type opkg update; opkg kmod-usb-net-cdc-ether
6) After installing that, which should install some dependencies also, type reboot
7) When it comes back up, insert the 3G/4G dongle in, and on the web interface, add a new Interface called "wan", using interface eth1, set this as a DHCP Client, as it will learn the IP address from the 3G/4G dongle.
8) To check whether this has worked, if you login via SSH as explained above and type "dmesg | grep ether" without quotes, it should show a line with a MAC address, which should look like this: 00:11:aa:bb:cc...
9) Set the Wired port to have the following details:
IP: 192.168.2.1
Subnet: 255.255.255.0
Gateway: 192.168.8.1 (you might need to check what the dongle sets, but this is what mine used and seems to be standard)
DNS: 8.8.8.8

Make sure DHCP is enabled, and on the advanced options tab, tick "force dhcp if another exists"

10) Disable/delete the Wireless adjacency you setup to get internet connectivity.
11) Plug your laptop back in if you unplugged it and change it to DHCP/auto configure, and should give you a 192.168.2.x address. Also, at this point the USB dongle should have a static blue light on it - meaning it's connected and working
12) On your laptop try and visit a website, or 192.168.8.1, and you should see the Huawei page.

If all of that is working drop it in your car, and you should be good to go! I played around with it quite a lot to get it working, so happy to answer any questions.

Hi Alex thanks for the info, now have a connect, I downloaded the latest firmware for the MR3020. Worked through both your hints and the pdf from mizza.

When I run from the green menu IP config, now get ping results from local and remote test. Tried POI test and works Ok.

So it appears I have it setup. But when I go to map view, above 2d 3d there is Google Maps with a check box, which is ticked. But it is greyed out. Is this the same on your setup? Or can you check uncheck ?

Also so far have not got the street view, (Google Earth) have you got yours operating?

Also went into Setup -> Navigation, Route Guidance, selected road view, thinking that would bring up street view.

In equipment you have MMI USB cable, I take it you plug into the MMI socket in the glove box and will use usb to ether to connect to the MR3020

My equipment MR3020
Huawei 3G/4G dongle
O2 data sim
USB power supply hi jacked the iPhone charge

Telenet in not that confident of that, reasonably Ok with network setup

I followed mizza pdf file, setup and MR3020 address is 172.16.1.254, in his description that is the address he described, not sure why?

Cheers

Ok. So if data is working, so should the maps. It did take some time to kick in, which maybe downloading cache?

Street View only works if you're using a SIM from what I've read!

Also Online Traffic doesn't work without a subscription, unless someone can help here? TMC works fine...

Reference the in the display is Google Maps greyed out your setup? or can you check uncheck. Maybe I am getting to hung up on the fact you cant check or uncheck.

Into green menu -> GoogleEarth -> Activate, reply "Not Installed" "Do Nothing". It is not clear to me how to uninstall GEMMI, so I can then reinstall.

Speak to you tomorrow, I think I need one more post before I can reply PM :0

Just read one of your previous posts... it says you installed all 4 cards, is that right? If so you need to install the first 2 only. As you've run the uninstall, it may have taken the scripts away, which could be why it's not working.

What I would do (not a recommendation!) is run the first 2 USB sticks again.
