It's very unfortunate to have to write this post as I loved the vehicle, but the dreaded High-Pressure Fuel Pump on my 2013 Volkswagen Touareg TDI has blown, and I wanted to see if there is any interest for anyone on the forum. The dealer Volkswagen of Downtown LA has diagnosed that my high pressure fuel pump failed, so the entire fuel system needs to be replaced (16K quote for the repair). Unfortunately although I love the car and has been one of my favourite to own, I cannot justify the repairs considering the use I have been giving it, and will be looking at leasing a cheap EV instead.
I bought the vehicle in November of 2021 and at the time the vehicle had 81,480 miles. On December 7th 2021, at 82,647 miles the high pressure fuel pump failed, and the entire fuel system was replaced by Volkswagen of Downtown LA under the Dieselgate extended warranty.
Since then I have had 4 years of troublefree ownership until, last week the car had a P0087 (Fuel Rail/System Pressure - Too Low) and a P0266 (Cylinder 2 Contribution/Balance) and a misfire, which after 30 miles of driving the vehicle shut down and would not start again.
During my ownership the vehicle has had routine Oil Changes every 6-7k miles(either done by myself or at the dealership) and fuel filter replacements every other oil change. Mechanically until this failed the car was excellent, except it did consume 1 quart of oil every 4k miles or so. Overall exterior is in excellent condition, the front bumper has scuffs and marks but otherwise exterior wise the car is in incredible shape and condition for its mileage.
I wanted to see if there are any feelers out there in this forum for anyone interested in the vehicle, I am not sure what the pricing would be considering the repairs needed, but looking to see if there is any interest out there. Also, considering that I am not sure with the pricing, looking for input on the forums or suggestions on others that have gotten rid of their Touareg after the HPFP failure.
The car does have some modifications, I'd like to remove them and keep them but will be willing to include it at an additional price if anyone is interested. The car would come with the original wheels, and Michelin tires that I believe have less than 8-10k miles on them and have been stored indoors in a climate controlled environment.
Modifications that are included in the car:
  • EUROWISE - GEN 2 - WINCH MOUNT - CAYENNE/TOUAREG (Does not include winch) - Also do not have the factory crash bar
  • EUROWISE - Wheel Stud Conversion (Cayenne/Touareg/Q7)
  • VW Touareg/Porsche Cayenne Lift Kit (T3) - FMLFT4
  • Apple CarPlay / Android Auto Interface on the OEM Radio

Modifications that are not included in the car(But willing to include at an additional cost):
  • Rhino rack pioneer platform with CBX Heavy Duty Removable Rail Mount Leg
  • Rotiform STL Wheel 18" 5x130 in Gloss Black - 5x130 / 18x9 et30 / cb71.6 × 5 Wheels(1 wheel has curb rash) - Installed are Toyo Open Country AT3(the spare is new others are approaching the wear mark and 1 wheel has a tire plug on the sidewall)
  • Thule Outland Awning (2./ 7.5ft)
  • Warn VR EVO 10-S Winch with Synthetic Rope
  • DIRTCOM TRAIL SWING

The vehicle is currently at the service center in Volkswagen of Downtown Los Angeles (Zip Code 90017), ideally, the person interested would come pick up the car with a flatbed trailer, but if not we can sort our with the use of AAA having a tow(but would need to be able to remove the installed modifications.
Apologies, but being in the shop I do not have any good pictures, but adding what I currently have on my phone. Definitely open to peoples feedback, and can work with someone that is willing to revive this Touareg back.

No such thing as over-changing a fuel filter. I'm guessing poor quality gas stations were used and there wasn't any use of a diesel treatment additive. I'm sorry to hear of your troubles.

Hi All, I do appreciate all of the feedback, unfortunately I don't know what occurred, but I did try using B20 when possible and used Diesel-Kleen with every fill up. For the fuel filter the last two had been 1 at the service at the dealer, and the other myself and primed using OBD-eleven.
The poor quality gas might be possible, the last two failures occurred using a gas station near my home that I usually avoid, unless in a rush, but its a Mobil that doesn't seem to get the right upkeep, and rarely see a lot of Diesel Pump Activity.
Unfortunately, the vehicle has been sold as of this afternoon, hate having had to part ways with it.
