I think on later T3s there is no hole anymore.

I did too but 3 weeks ago my oil sensor took a dump and showed that I was 1qt low then an overfill. The good thing is I bought a dipstick to verify my oil level (which was/is right on), the bad thing is the oil sensor is on back order  The oil level reading is a crucial piece of info and should not be trusted to some dinky sensor that can go kaput at any time, IMHO.

I decided to order a dipstick for my 2012 last week while in for my 1 year service. It cost $ 20 and change and arrived in a day.

I don't know what all the fuss is about installing it. You simply open the hood ..or bonnet, for you tooby....pull on the little nipple at the top of the long tube angled up from center to right side at the front of the engine...then insert the stick. For those without imagination, that would be as one faced the engine compartment from the front of the vehicle.

So.
I will say that I feel much better having that mechanical connection to the lifeblood measurement of my engine.
For what it's worth, my dash reading is full and my dipstick reads full at the top of the cross hatching. Just thought I'd record this for any folks that are confused by all of the misinformation posted here.

I assume you mean that you ordered it from the local dealer?

Unless VW changed the engine cover on the 2013 TDI, there is no need to pull anything on the 2012. It is exposed for easy checking once the stick is installed.

I was motivated to to order mine since the oil was changed for the first time by the dealer and I wanted to make sure that the oil was actually filled.

My electronic dipstick has never shown any deviation from totally full in 9,000 miles so I was beginning to think it was not functional. At least with the dipstick I know where it is at.

Yes, the very same part, and part number.

On a 2013 treg (tdi), you can install the dipstick but the engine cover will hide it. The engine cover will snap back down on the 4 balls with the dipstick in place. I am thinking about using a hole saw on the engine cover to have an opening to access the dip stick or, you could just remove the cover and check

Ok got the dipstick today and here is what I noticed. I pulled the black plug and installed it... No problems... But here are pics my dash monitor shows just under full and the dipstick oil goes over the full and over the plastic ball on the top showing overfilled... So which is it lol?

Ooooooooooo......dilemma, dilemma......and if you take that to the dealer to show them will they try to claim you altered your altering your engine and your warranty is now void????...I think that would be ridiculous, but.......My guess would be to drain the oil and measure how much comes out. Hopefully that will give you a better idea as to which reading to trust.

Stupid question, but you didn't have your engine running at any time during the dipstick test, did you? I'd agree with carefully draining and measuring how much oil you've got in there. Add .25 to .5 qts to whatever comes out and compare that to your fluid tables. Yikes!

Edit: Just thought of something, this is the dipstick for 2010-2012 model Tregs right? On the 13, the engine redesign moved the dipstick over a few inches, maybe the length is different enough to account for this reading? Not sure, but someone should know. Anyone able to do a comparison between a 12 and a 13 on these?

does the plastic engine cover fit over the dip stick handle or do you have to remove the dip stick to replace the cover?

My thoughts have been that they left the dip stick tube so you can still due an oil extraction.

But, then why put some type of marker on the plug so they can tell if the plug has been removed??
They didn't actually mark the plug on mine just the tube itself... Maybe someone else can check if they have the mark and if its on just the tube like mine or the cap also. Maybe they just missed the cap on mine lol

A mechanical measuring device ie 'a stick' is ALWAYS more reliable than an electronic simulation. The mechanical dipstick does a whole bunch of things - it tells you that there is liquid there - you can see what color (condition) it is in - relative to the TOP of the stick, you can tell how MUCH is there and it provides a small sample you can touch or rub with your fingers (and smell it) to get an idea of the condition and if, in fact it is actually oil.
A LOT of information from a VERY SIMPLE 'stick'

Gents,

New to the forum and a proud owner of a 2011 Touareg!

Okay straight to point.

The dipstick story. Some people have good readings with a 2010 dipstick in their 2011 and up.
I got the 059115611AA dipstick (2010 touareg) and after spending a hour by the dealer debating the dipstick we finally actually compared the length of the 2010 dipstick and the length of the special tool VW dipstick (special VW mechanic dipstick). we concluded that the dipstick 2010 is too short for the 2011. The level on the mechanic dipstick was correct together with the service screen.

So I continued my search and ran into this dipstick. 059115611T dipstick.
This is a european dipstick that supposidly fits on the CATA engines as well..
I am curious if somebody has this particular european dipstick in his/her touareg and if you could please post me the lenght of this dipstick. Also I am currently offshore and not close to my car so if somebody can confirm the lenght of the 059115611AA dipstick. THen I can compare the lengths and understand on what is going on.

Thanks for your help

So..... Don't leave us guessing... What was the length difference ( from retainer shoulder to full mark) between the two you did measure???
