Occasionally my turn signal will start to freak out, usually when I have the stalk set to flash for a right turn. It will blink the right lights once or twice, then start blinking the left lights, then swap back and forth. Its like when it is in this position the switch in the stalk can't decide if I have the right turn signal or the left turn signal on. It isn't doing both at the same time, like the hazards. It only happens occasionally, and seems to only be when I am trying to indicate a right turn. Other people on the road must think I am stupid and just playing with the stalk.

Has anyone else experienced this? I don't seem to have any bulbs out.

There has been an issue on the Generation 1 Touaregs where the indicator stalk plays up sending the wrong signal which is bloody dangerous.

A squirt of contact cleaner into the switch in the steering column has usually fixed it so it's worth trying on your Gen 2 car.

If it does, make sure you double check the repeaters on the door mirrors for a while when you signal so you can be confident the problem really has been fixed.

Yes, I find it to be quite dangerous and want to try to get to the bottom of it. Fortunately it happens very infrequently but I am concerned about it being one of those things that gets worse over time.

The battery seems fine, as far as I can tell. Voltage is good and keeps voltage fine and starts easily after sitting for a couple days.

I'll take a look to see if I can get access to the base of the stalk to spray it with a contact cleaner. I am assuming the trim piece under the column removes easy enough and will give me access.

I do have a Vagcom, curious if anyone knows if I can verify it is the stalk rather than a body module signal interpretation?

I'm having the same problem. Indicate a right turn, it'll flash once or twice on the right and then flash on the left. Doesn't seem to happen on left turns. If you push up on the switch and hold some pressure it'll do right. Did you resolve this?

The OP hasn't been on here for over a year. Best bet would be contact cleaner or renew the switch assembly.
