2011 V6, which brake pads?

I'm due for new brake pads on the wife's 2011 V6 (T3). I usually use ecstuning, but they show different size rotors for same year and model. I believe one option is 350MM and then another is 330MMx32MM. First question is; which size does mine use or how do I find out for certain. Also I've seen some brake pad kits include wear sensors, do they have to be replaced as well? Last question is, should I just buy OEM VW/AUDI pads or are there better options? The brakes have the common squeaking issue when backing up in the mornings, and I was hoping new pads would correct this, wondering if that was really the case for anyone else who had similar issues. Thanks in advance for help!

I did quick search on one of the VW OEM P/N's for front rotor (7L6615301P) and it looks to be 330mm.

Our 2011 Touareg has the squeaking problem in morning backing up, seems typical on these vehicles and will probably go a way for a while with new pads because everything is clean and new.

Have you been satisfied with OEM brakes ? How long have the pads lasted ?

On our Treg with almost 90K we are still on original brake components F & R, with that said it will be hard not to use VW OEM components and hope for another 100K out of them.

Also with OEM pads we get virtually no dusting, I would like some better performance but pretty sure that will get me more brake dusting also.

It is recommended to use new sensors and pins, not a big expense so do it once the right way and be done.

VWBob,

Thanks for replying to me again. We've had the car for a little over 30k (two years) and have not done any brake work. I am assuming they are original brake pads. I really have no complaint on performance, to me they have always felt great. I also saw that some of the kit that include wear sensors are not too much more than kits that do not include them so I figured I might as well have them replaced. What exactly are "pins"? I really hoped to get rid of the morning brake noise, super annoying!

I buy a lot of my VW parts from the place below, pins are pictured with brake pad set.
Front brake pad set, Hudson Ceramic. Set of 4 pads, one set required per car.

The Zimmerman or Brembo rotors are OEM quality in my opinion, you can find VW OEM rotors at Keffer Volkswagen | Genuine Volkswagen Parts, Accessories, and DriverGear for similar price.

With pads you never know until you put on and run a couple thousand miles to see performance and dusting.

Are you doing the work yourself ?

Typically dealers over charge for this work, if you show them what you can buy OEM parts for online sometimes they will match those prices from their own parts department.

Thanks for links. esctuning sells a kit with all four pads and sensors for $141 which I didn't think was bad. The link you sent me are cheaper but aren't VW/Audi like the ones on ECStuning. I really want to use all OEM parts if possible. I just did a major service this weekend including brake, and coolant flush, new plugs and oil change and used all VW/Audi parts except for oil of course. To answer your question, I am NOT doing work myself but have a good indy mechanic that is. He was the one that told me I would need new pads soon. I think I will have him change fuel filter at the same time as new pads.

I would buy vw pads and rotors for the front. Pagids will wear in less than 30k miles. They will perform well though. For the rears I think textar and Zimmerman are the way to go to save some cash or just buy matching vw brand for longer life.
My wife got 40k+ miles on the stock rotors and pads and 25k on pagid branded front brakes the rears had another 10k to go.

I am now on pagid pads with Zimmerman rotors in the front, again they stop great (maybe better than stock)but lots of dust and it is wearing at the same fast pace. I have textar pads with Zimmerman rotors in the rear and they appear to be the perfect combo as they aren't dusting much and the wear appears to be better. I would like to find textar front pads.

ecstuning is expensive. I carry TRW and others, better pricing. I have sold to a lot of guys on here the TRW pads. I think they are top notch. I have been on my trw's for 3 years now and they are still not close to being done. IM me! Squeaking when backing up will never be solved. It's not a problem it's just due to the fact that the brake rotor is being used mainly in the other direction and when you reverse you are rubbing everything in the wrong direction. Not harmful, nothing to do with brake pads or brand. I have OE rotors, ATE rotors and others. I can beat most anyone on pricing. I don't have the parts up on my site as of yet. but check out my signature and contact me that way too.

I think pagid makes lots of pads for many other brands (brembo, textar, etc) but I don't think the compound is the same as what vw puts on the touareg at the factory. Performance was the same or better but longevity was terrible on my pagid pads. I also think they dusted more. I don't know anything about TRW pads. I have only put pagid's and textar pads on my Porsches and have loved the performance, but I didn't drive those cars much (so never worried about longevity). I think it's unacceptable to change pads and rotors every 14-16 months (and I do the work myself).

How many miles did you get on your vw pads and rotors? If you got 40k or more I would stick to those also because you are getting the work done by a shop. Its not a cheap job so get the right parts.

FWIW we are at 90K on our 11 VR6 with original pads and rotors front/back, unbelievable longevity for such a big vehicle and no complaints about stopping power.

If VW Parts departments sell same rotors/pads as put in at the factory it really is a no brainer..........

Here is an idea what I can supply and what I use. Many owners here I have supplied and are happy with them:

Front Rotors: $99 oe only
Rear $99 oe or $79 zimmermen

TRW Brake pads: F: $62.00, R: 41.00 Brake Sensors: OEM: $7.50 each

I carry other brands but find these very good.

I can also slot and cryogenically process rotors. :D

I bought pagid pads and rotors thinking they were "oem" yet they didnt have the longevity of the vw parts. The vw parts cost about $800-900, where as the oem parts sell for 450 (but have half the longevity).

You can try other compound pads, but they don't stop as well. I have never tried them on the touareg so can't comment.

I don't think there is a consensus on what pads and rotors to get outside of vw parts.

My vw rotors were warped at 40k, so I had no choice. My second set with "oem" rotors developed quite a lip, so I replaced. The rears were fine. Vw recommends replacing the pads and rotors together.

Sounds like your guy may not know, nor has he checked, what the minimum rotor/disc thickness is for the Touareg.

Trust us, we do know what we are talking about on here!

I show my VW Parts Dept what I can buy online for and they match if I show them shipping cost, see below and you ought to be able to get at your dealer for $600 or less

from my experience not so happy with bosch quietcast. they are very quiet and last long they wont stop very well and they heat up the rotors. but like everything else what is ur drive like and do u gun it from light to light. do u live in the hills, do u drive in the mountains, do u down shift coming to a stop. all of these factors will come into play not only on the brakes system but also tires and suspension. alot lot of times the textar or ate will say oe formulation

When I changed my brakes, it was at 132,000 kms. I live up north so I don’t use the brakes too much.
I bought Brembo discs which were coated and after 1 winter, the discs are holding up well. It was recommended to me to use TRW pads. I have been working on cars for 40 years and have never had good luck with TRW (comparable to the likes of Munroe) or USA parts.
I did not like the TRW pads and I won’t be buying them again. The feel is mushy through the pedal compared to VW (Pagid) pads. It does not squeal when reversing unlike the original pads but feel is more important than dust or squeal.
My preferred setup is Brembo / Zimmerman discs with Pagid pads front and back. New sensors, pins and clips as always.

Thanks again VWBob. I am assuming I need to order two of each of the wear sensors, two fronts and two backs? When I enter part number for "Front Hardware Kit" (7L6-698-269-B) it shows me a "retainer spring for $12.36, does this sound correct? If so, do I need to order two of these parts? Also, "Back Hardware" (7PP-615-269) shows it being "Brake pads mount kit" @ $29.50. Does this also sounds correct? and if so, how many of this part do I need to order? Thanks again!

I am getting parts together to do fronts, ordered Brembo UV Coated rotors and will get OEM VW Pads from dealer or online OEM from place like https://www.vwpartsvortex.com
Call them and I am sure they will get it right for you.

For hardware I have sourced from RockAuto
Pagid wear sensors and Centric Hardware Kit
2011 VOLKSWAGEN TOUAREG 3.6L V6 Brake Pad Wear Sensor | RockAuto
2011 VOLKSWAGEN TOUAREG 3.6L V6 Disc Brake Hardware Kit | RockAuto

I think back hardware is just the metal spring/retainer
Listings show single and double pad sensors for front, my 2011 has just single sensor set up in front.

Your best bet is to talk directly with company you decide to buy brake parts from, I am not an expert and don't want to be responsible for any wrong part you may buy.

If you purchase from a VW dealer they will ask for your VIN and enter into parts database to look up the required parts, the vwpartsvortex.com website is actually a VW dealer in NJ

Best advice I could give you, being I just changed all 4 corners this weekend, is to call Geoff @ Alretta Brakes. He is extremely knowledgeable with the Touareg braking system and carry's all inclusive brake kits made with top quality parts. Don't over think this trying to save a few pennies - do it right he first time.

I have one final question on this.
I am ordering parts now but there is a hardware mount kit for the front and one for rear.
Front Hardware Kit -7L6-698-269-B
Back Hardware -7PP-615-269

My question is: do I have order two for front (website shows "left" and then "right). Same question for the rear, am I ordering one or two of the rear kits?

Total or two parts or total of four parts? Thanks
