I didn't notice any significant turbo lag with the 2011 TDI. The low torque of the diesel gets the truck moving swiftly and the turbo kicks in seamlessly. I was agonizing over my purchase on gasser vs. TDI. Made my decision tonight on the TDI. Regarding miles driven annually and towing requirements, I really don't need a diesel as an everyday driver. Regardless I spent the extra to get the TDI for the way it drove around town and IMO, less engine noise than the gasser. Both are great engines. That why I wrestled with the decision for a week. Coming out of a Dodge 2500 Cummins probably helped with the TDI. Something about that dirty smell of diesel at the gas pump in the morning.

You won't be filling that TDI near as often as you would have the gasser V6.

Look at how many Aussie members own TDI's (R5, V6 3.0 and V10) There's lots of us! We seem to love 'em! The V6 TDI is now the top seller here.

Hybrid availability

Not sure if this will be news/helpful for anyone, but I found this thread while looking to verify some information I got this last weekend, so I'll pass it along...

I was told by Volkswagon of Santa Monica that there were exactly 9 hybrid versions of the 2011 Touareg destined for the US (total), and that they would likely each be sold at a $20,000 premium over the MSRP. I have no idea if this statement is factual or a brash lie to try to entice me to buy a non-hybrid version instead, but either way it has pretty much destroyed my interest in the 2011 hybrid Touareg.

Hopefully that's useful info for someone else.

They have three 2011s, all "on sale" for $3,000 off sticker.

Two 2010s left also, including a black base TDI and a black Lux limited that is beautiful, but a gasser:anger:
