So, here’s what’s happening. Factory radio works fine. Dynavin N7 works fine. Alpine ILX-W650 doesn’t. It does works fine in the old Touareg. It’s connected to a harness adapter and 2 Axxess canbus controllers that both recognize the car and the alpine. It’s baffling.

Thanks for the help but I guess I shouldn’t expect anyone to know. I have forever been plagued with “first time I’ve heard of it” problems with my VWs. 😜
