I am considering a trade of my 2010 TDI for a nearly identical 2013 TDI. Mine has 65k miles and has been no trouble. 2013 is a dealer leftover with 600 miles that they want to move.

What are the differences in the base vehicle? I know the 2013 is an 8 speed but what other chassis or drive train changes were there? Just looking for the "big hitters". I know there are dozens of small details.

Thanks
Bob

2011+ now has torsen center differential, which means you can no longer lock the center. The torque distribution is 40(front)/60(rear) in normal driving conditions. The car is 600 lbs lighter, which contributes the fuel economy numbers. The Engine is rated 240HP.

I believe that 40/60 is for Cayenne, Touareg is 50/50. Also 2011-2012 had older engine which was rated at 225hp. 2013 and on have new 240hp engine.

Pretty sure 2011-2012 had the same engine as '09-'10 TDI.

Oh, I thought it was just the 8-speed tranny that was different. Thanks for the info!

You are right fincher...they have the same hp/torque. I thought there were some other distinct engine changes with the 2011 vs. 2009/10's, but maybe the big difference was simply tranny and less weight...400 lbs or so.

Yeah, the tranny and less weight is the reason for the improved mileage.

Way better on road, not as good off road. Smoother and more modern all around.

Agree on that.

The system features a limited-slip Torsen® rear differential that splits the available torque 40 percent front/60 percent rear for balanced and predictable performance on- and off-road, in all weather conditions.

But disagree with the following:

you can no longer lock the center.
Pay extra money for Terrain Tech package and you'll be able to lock differentials. :)

Two drivetrains are available - a conventional 4Motion all-wheel drive with Torsen limited-slip differential, and a more off-roadable 4XMotion 4WD system with 100 percent lockable centre and rear differentials, plus a dual-range transfer case.
