Since you haven't put your location in your user profile we don't know where you are in the world and your car description isn't correct.

If your car is a diesel then you either have a 5 cylinder 2 5 Tdi or a 3.0 V6 Tdi !

Either way you need to get the car scanned with VCDS to see what faults are recorded.

Click on User CP and scroll down. You can also add your car model too.

You'll need to give more clues.

How long has it been going on?

Is it temperature dependent?

Is the car parked on an incline?

Is there any smoke when the car starts?

If so, what colour is it?

Only happened over last couple weeks..leaving work yesterday low dgrees not frozen..just cranked and did nothing a couple times after I had back from the garage...no codes flagged they said.
Drove home..8 to 10 miles..parked on drive...level drive...
Tried again as she was warm..and the same nothing happening few times ..then would fire up.

Don't see facility to add details like that...only e mail pic name settings for notifications and time zone...

Thankyou.

Hi guys n girls

2004 2.5 V6 intermittently just cranks but doesn't fire up or just does nothing...
Anyone got any ideas please..

Thankyou...
My bet is intermittent signal issues with either your camshaft position sensors or speed sensor( crankshaft sensor). Other possibility is fuel pump priming issues which could be caused by dirty filter or problem pump. Generally you should get a CEL if the sensors are on the blink. Any of the three sensors if faulty can lead to long cranking time. If the speed sensor goes bad car will never start or shut off if driving. If one or both camshaft sensors goes bad car will take a very long time to crank. The sensors are nothing but magnets with an electronic component that sends a signal to your ECM on camshaft or crankshaft position. Helps the car crank quickly when the ECM knows which piston(s) are TDC fires those first.
