12V plug ins

We have a friend that is planning on going camping with us in the coming weeks who has to be hooked up to a breathing machine at night when he sleeps. Unfortunately the camp ground we are going to is very primitive and does not have electricity at the camp sites. I'm trying to prevent him having to cancel and was thinking about the possibility of plugging the machine into one of the 12V hookups in the back of my Treg, my only question is does anyone know if this would possibly work, or am I going to most likely end up with a dead battery? The machine would only be plugged in at night, and for 2 nights total.

If I am not mistaken the ports to plug into are disabled when the vehicle is off so you would have to run the Touareg through the night while your buddy is plugged in to his breathing machine. So it won't drain your battery but it will burn some fuel. Cheers I hope you enjoy that trip.

If it is the machine I am thinking about the power onsumption should be 110v. On the Touaregs here we have standard 2 plugs in the back 12v and 220v, don't the Touaregs in the States come with a 110v converter standard?

Yeah, 12v only, and I have no idea what the power requirements are for the machine, however I don't think leaving the Treg idling all night is a very good idea. Looks like he's gonna have to get a generator or wait for the next trip unfortunately. Thank you for all your help!

12 volt power

I have a 2006 V6 Treg, and I use the 12 volt outlet in the cargo area all the time to pump up my tires, using a 12V pump unit. DO NOT have to have the engine running. But the battery has just so many amps to burn, and the machine you hook up may draw down the battery significantly.

Find out what the hourly amp rate for the machine is, and then figure hours you can run it by what the amp rating of the battery is. May have to do a quick charge sometime during the night. Do not want to discharge too deep.

Look at the jump packs at the NAPA store. some have 110 outlets. I have two that run T.V. and lights for hours. I hate to run generators if I don't have to. If you've ever spent the night on the boat and have someone anchor near you with all that noise.

I'm not a big fan of the generator idea either, but I'll get the amp rating and see if it would be feasible to run it from there. As long as it won't run my battery down to nothing then I'm ok with it.

If you have the money get one of the smaller Honda inverters. Those things make next to no noise what so ever.

MY wife uses one of those as well and I use a lighter plug 12v to 110 inverter same one i use for my laptop. haven't tried it on the t-reg. but on our boat she has no problems and it starts in the morning but those are bigger batteries and I can hook 2 in parallel to start if needed. probably just making sure you have a good set of jumper cables. and point the nose of the t-reg toward the road will do it.
