Hi,

Next morning my car won't start, the keyless opened the doors and interior lights only. The start button nor the key will make it start. Nothing in the display no dash board signs only the radio and the VAV

Please advice.

The key is turning fine. The steering and gear aren't moving at all. And no sign of any cranking sound.

Please advice.

Sali

Hope to fined some answers.

It sounds like what you are saying is that the ignition "on" position works, but not the crank engine position. It almost sounds like you are not pressing on the brake pedal in order to allow the starter to engage. This was a safety feature implemented after 04. Assuming of course that you are pressing on the pedal, I'd check to see that the brake pedal switch or whatever the right terminology is, recognizes that brake pedal is engaged before you turn the ignition to start.

Ditto for the park tranny lever. A member once reported a penny was stuck in there, and it did not signal that it was in park position, hence had all sorts of issues.

When I left the car it was in great working and starting condition. It wasn't more than 12 hrs no lights where left or battery drain issue. I pressed the break till it touch the ground. It won't show any lights on the display and I used the start button first then the key and both have the same scenario the radio and internal light only are working nothing else.

If nothing in the dash lights up when ignition switch is on, then disregard everything I wrote.

You need a Vag-Com scan dude so that you don't needlessly spend money on trouble shooting by elimination.

In the meantime, like others wrote, sounds like a low battery issue.

It is possible. However, have you tried to jump it? If it still doesnt work I'd recommend changing the battery. Dont think it matters but it cant hurt. If that doesnt work then the dealer is where I would go. But i watched your video and mine was doing exactly what yours was doing and when I changed the battery everything is cool.

Scan it with Vagcom
.

Someone else with a V8 had problems like this recently.

They discovered a duff fuse #26 and a dud battery which was only 6 months old.

I'm having exactly the same issue in my V10 R50. I've tried jump starting, checking fuses, charging battery and changing keys, nothing has helped. I've now had Roadside assist test both batteries (front & rear), both passed as good batteries. The roadside assistance mechanic suspected that it was the immobiliser but volkswagen has advised that it should crank then shut down if it were the immobiliser. I'm curious if disconnecting and reconnecting the battery may be clear this error however I'm not game to try this yet as I don't want to make things worse. I'm trying to organise getting it towed to the workshop, I'm a little concerned whether it can be loaded safely onto the truck as it's stuck in park and the steering lock in on.

Hi guys ,

Update.

I have had the steering and gear working now by not doing any thing, I just checked the fuses and found them all fine but during the pulling and placing again I think I did engaged something.

So by this time the battery was replaced after four weeks of not moving at all.

I'm able to turn the key and gear but the car won't start nor crank at all.

Any advice please, why it won't start now.

Regards,

Saleh

Have you checked the Back-Up Fuse Box located under the driver's seat? Within this fuse box is a Battery Master/Isolation switch. If the battery has been isolated, a white cover
will be seen in the sight-glass instead of a copper winding. The relay should then be reset using the reset switch, otherwise starting the engine will not be possible.

Mine is working now, the workshop said the reason was due to a missing fuse #26. Before taking the car to the shop I checked the fuses ( particularly fuse #26 as suggested on another post) it seems I returned the fuse to a blank slot #25, stupid, I know. The dealer said they just put this fuse in and it starting working again. Who knows why this happened initially I just hope the problem does not return.

PS: I did eventually get the car out of park to put on the tow truck, there is any emergency release switch located under the centre console trim, you need to allow an hour to get to it. I have a diagram if anyone wants it.

Hi,

Mine is '08 would you please help with the switch location
And by the way, where is the Fuse#26 as mine doesn't have the panel numbered and can't fined the fuse location too by its number.

Attached is what the battery looks like under the driver, please help with finding the reset switch.

Saleh

Hi Ssharekh,

I don't know how similar or different our cars are, in case it helps my fuse docs are attached as well as some photos, also the diagram to access the emergency release switch to get the car out of park.

Note: the fuse panel I accessed was the one on the left (passenger side in Australia).

Hope this helps.
