Hey all my first post, hope this works out right. I have been driving Vw's for years now and its time to venture into the world of SUV's and away from my Vr6 Compacts.

I plan to buy a used 04 -05 Treg and cant choose between the V8 and the V6. I want to go V8 just because well.. more power right? Is there a huge difference? I would be towing two jet skis possibly a boat one day who knows.

I like to go up to the mountains when I can and of course run through some trails or mud. Will the V6 hinder my abilities to do any of this? Should I grab a V8? I hear they make plenty of supercharger kits and mods for the V-6 so it might be more viable.

Please let me know your thoughts and opinions.
thanks!

I'm really happy with my V6 but when it comes time to get into another I'll be targeting a V8. The only reason I went V6 was the cost of doing the timing belt at 80k. Now that I know more, the replacement isn't too bad and I could have done the work myself. The V8 is a great motor! One of Audi's best.

Go V8.The mileage is about the same but the amount of power is huge.
If you go V6 take 2005 or newer. They have 20 horses more than the 04

cool thanks for the replies! I think I found a couple used 04' V8's in great condition 52k miles. One is white with the teak leath ( not to thrilled about that ) the other has 59k Shadow blue with beige int.. tough choice ha-ha. I think I will definetly grab one of the two pretty soon.

The V6 won't hinder any of your abilities there pixelfish, as it has got the same towing capacity as any other of the egg's engines on paper. But like one member mentioned, get the newer ones, specifically the FSI one if you go V6.

Get the V8. FSI version or not. ;)

Ha-Ha I am stationed in Korea now wont be home for 3 months I think I want to grab this Treg before someone else does. sucks just looking at picks and hoping its in good condition. White isnt my favorite cup of tea either =P oh well

If you have three months to go before you get back, I would wait. There are always enough Touareg's for sale. Find one you like (colour and options).

As for the off road part, the engines are the lest of your worries. Ground clearance, approach/break-over angles, and tires are all bigger concerns.
thanks steakval I might want to get with you when I decide to buy some tires and wheels.
What kind of wheel size would be good and tires? I am thinking some black wheels to go with a white Treg. Any brand ? BSS OZ? ( Atleast those were good for my lowered cars ha-ha)

Ha-Ha I used to drive two Vr6 gti/getta's and now the new interest is the great outdoors.

Yeah man I agree, the thing is that I have been checking out the ads for 2 months and just recently 2 Tregs showed up in the last month with this price/mileage.
53k miles for 15000$ dont show up too often( atleast with this good condition), although I have seen before , but still I dont want to risk getting back and stuck without a ride.

I have a pretty good mechanic my fam goes to for their Vw's so I think he would be a trust worthy guy to tell me to grab it or bail.
