Hello folks

newby here from Cumbria UK

I've just acquired a 2007 3L TDI Treg, Altitude spec. Looking forward to contributing (hopefully usefully!) to the Forum.

I've never owned a Treg before and I get to pick up my purchase on Wenesday evening this week. :)

Welcome to the Forum, here you will find heaps of good information as well as some enjoyable humour... ;-)

Stuart..

Well done on doing your homework. Which warranty company and what level of cover and what value repairs are covered? Wear and tear included?

Hi, sorry for taking so long to respond. I went away on business (in the Touareg). A nice faultless 1000 miles. Very impressed.

In answer to your question the warranty company is called drivercare and the warranty is arranged by the garage. I have 'gold' cover which covers parts and labour for most things upto ÂŁ1200/claim. As long as the work is approved I can have it done by any VAT registered garage. The warranty looks quite comprehensive but I often approach such things with a healthy dose of pragmatism. I think in the circumstances its the best I could hope for. General wear and tear is not covered but I wouldn't expect that on an '07 car to be fair.

I had the garage remove the dodgy aftermarket HID conversion kit and revert to original 'as supplied' lighting.

The previous owner upgraded the entertainment system with an RNS-510 and some screens for the rear passengers. The sound is quite impressive. I'm getting bluetooth fitted tomorrow.

All in all I'm very happy with my purchase!

ÂŁ1,200 is the starting point for some of the bigger Touareg repairs. Reconisider it.

Touareg headlights are crap. Get a HIDs kit from HIDs4U. Use STRATHY as the discount code.

I'm not going to re-negotiate I'm happy to make up the balance if necessary. I always make sure I can afford to run cars that I buy, the warranty just gives me some extra cover.

I'm not keen on after market HID's as the vehicle has no self levelling or washers for the headlamps. I thought these were required for MOT?

As long as you know and are happy to stick your hand in your pocket, that's fine: lots of new owners don't appear to realise you pay to play.

As for washers and self-levelling [as opposed to the on-board manual levelling], it's been discussed ad nauseam elsewhere and, yes, technically they appear to be required but the UK regulations actually aren't that clear about them.

No one has ever queried the absence of washers and levellers on my car at MoT and nor has anyone ever flashed me as the projector lenses are excellent in focussing the light correctly [unlike the Corsa morons!].

On a dark wet night on an unlit, unknown road quite a few owners find the pathetic output from the halogens are nothing short of dangerous.

I take your point on the halogens, I noticed the lack of light whilst working up in Scotland last week. Coming from mercs this was a bit of a rude shock. I've ordered some Osram nightbreakers to try them out. I used to use them in my Unimog and they were a huge improvement without messing around with HID's. The UK legislation surrounding HID's is very confusing but I may yet go for the conversion. Thanks for the link!

You've got a UNIMOG . . .

I've just wet myself!

So has Arnie of course tho' this one isn't his tricked out truck....

LOL I used to have one. I ran a 1450L with 9tm HIAB crane for 6 years. It was a beauty! However, such fun came at a price. I hate to think what I spent maintaining it during the 40K miles I put on it in my care!

Given a choice I'd take the old one!

Thank you!!

Did you add the LED DRLs to the new mistress?

No the DRL's were already on. I've still not decided if I like them yet. They look good when 'on' but look a bit tacky close-up.

The old Mog was great fun and I had plenty of adventures in it. My crowning glory was attending a callout during which I had to go through the locked snow-gates on the A66 (legally I might add!) and then a few miles further on I overtook a snowplough in about 10 inches of snow. Ahh happy days!
