I have never had this happen. I was working on my driveway this evening and my Treg's battery died after listening to the radio for 45 minutes or so. Plus I opened the tail gate twice. Is this normal on these cars?

No, normally when you do stuff like that the car shuts stuff off like the radio. The battery was probably just that bad and surprised you got 45 mins out of it with out shutting it off.

Actually Yeti the radio did shut off and I turned it back on. To me it seems like there is a lot of Gremilins in the Treg. Or lack of knowledge on my part to operate properly? Please know Yeti the battery was done in 20212 by VW. And it runs all day long and 14 volts!

If you did not have the car running and had doors open with interior lights on as well as the radio it does put a drain on the battery. That is why it starts to shut things off after awhile. This is normal and not a problem. As far as the battery just going dead it could have a dead cell or just was not able to handle that particular load well. Either charge it and keep an eye on it or just buy a new one and have piece of mind.

With ignition on the DRL's are on too. Best to just press and hold on/off button radio for 2 seconds to turn radio on.

it's built in so the battery doesn't drain by accident. It purposefully switches the radio off after a set time even with the key out of the ignition.

Just switch the radio back on.

It is a safety feature, not a gremlin.

Had the same thing happen to me couple months ago. Took kids to a park and while they were playing, the wife and I were sitting in the car talking and listening to the radio. The doors were open and the dome lights were on. An hour later we decided to leave and the battery was too dead to turn over the motor. The ignition was off all the time, just the radio and dome lights for 1 hour somehow drained the battery. The battery is less than 2 years old.
It's unimaginable that the current draw of a radio and some lights for 1 hour can kill a high amperage rated battery. I remember the days going to a drive-in, watching 2 movies back to back with the radio on all the time, windows being opened and closed, dome lights going on and off and in a car with a tiny battery compared to what's in the Treg and never having a dead battery issue.
I'm now afraid to listen to the radio too long when parked in case it happens again.

I agree! This car is great but the electronics are over engineered. Look at Fords Sync with Bluetooth. Or when you town something with a non German car. VW definitely has an Achilles heal in electronics
