One of the people at AutoBarn (Mt. Prospect, IL,USA) mentioned that they should be receiving seven new ('07) V10s sometime next week.

He also mentioned that some "late '06s" are/were available, but they did not order any.

The stated ballpark was ~$70K+

I didn't get details for colors or option groups.

FWIW

Thanks Scott for the update, you probably don't know the answer to my question unless you have a diesel currently but do you know if ULSD is widely available in your area. Reason I ask is that if 07 V10's are run on regular diesel they will blow large amounts of white smoke. My guess is if your dealer is really getting theirs early, before the September launch date, ULSD must be widely available in your area. If not then your infomation was likely an over excited sales person.

My V10 arrived at port last week and if ULSD was available locally here in VA it would be delivered about the same time your dealer states they are getting theirs. Unfortunately, ULSD is not available locally yet so I have to wait until Sept. or later for delivery. It would be interesting to see if your dealer is just seeing the arrival of the allocation of 07's reaching port and are thinking because they show that they have arrived in the US they will be delivered. :-k

The V10's may show up at dealerships, but they are not allowed to be released until Sept. 1st.

As for ULSD... there will be a special information card that will come with all new V10s notifying the owners and dealerships will be going over that information for the owners. Also, VW is planning to set up a special V10TDI hotline for owners to call with any and all questions they have about the vehicle.

VW is doing this right!!!

I don't know why I find this funny but what are you going to call and ask...RTFM should be the answer

The only difference is that the V10 uses ULSD so pulling out the stops for the V10 owners and not include the V8 and V6 owners seems dangerous as far as customer service is concerned. All buyers at this level should be treated equal.

If the hot line is just for ULSD questions then I can understand their reasoning better.
:confused2:

The hotline, from what I've been told, will be for V10TDI owners with questions about the vehicle.

Those of us on this forum are a little smarter than the average bear. You know there are going to be people who purchase the car and either aren't told about the fuel requirement by their sucky dealership or won't pay attention to their orientation. Then, they will freak out when they fuel up with standard diesel and will go "ape-sheet" when they have a "smoke" episode and will call VWoA whining and crying like babies that their high-priced car is broken ---- WHEN IN FACT --- it isn't.

Now, what I've just said is in my own words and not VW's --- so I don't want there to be any confusion about that. Think about it... how many noobs have come on this board asking questions that would answered in simple terms in the manual???

I know I'd like to have access to a "Hotline" number for my V8.

Heck, I'm still trying to figure out what those little buttons behind steering wheel are for.

It was my understanding that there were not going to be any 2007's only 2006"s. I just ordered one due in August that is in the shipping over the pond stage.
The 2006 V10's have been in storage here in the US for several months. If you have one in the shipping stage then it will be a 2007. Both 2006 and 2007 models will be held until September for the official launch date. This is due to ULSD needing to be used in these vehicles because they have a particulate filter which will bellow copious amounts of white smoke if standard Diesel #2 w/sulfur at 500ppm is used.

It is strange that you would not know what year you have ordered, I'd be a bit concerned if the dealer is not disclosing this because you could end up with a 2006 but should really have a 2007 if all else is equal. Do you know what options your vehicle was ordered with...please don't say everything because this is a general statement and shows that the dealer has not done their job and given you the options w/options codes that denote such.

Click on the link below to see the 2007 Order Guide so you can see what the 07's are able to be ordered with. Your dealer should give you a print-out with all the options listed and VIN #.

Please don't let yourself be an uniformed buyer :-s

Where is the location of the particulate filter? Part of the exhaust system like a catalytic converter, or in the fuel delivery system? If I run into issues with not finding ULSD fuel, can the filter be removed to eliminate the white smoke? And at an environmental cost?

I, too, have my name on one of the four "early 2007 models" destined to Florida (verified Commission #) and have been told it will not be delivered to me until the September launch date, due to the ULSD fuel. If fuel manufacturers are slow in getting this fuel to the market, I assume the Treg's will sit until it is available? Not that I mind my current 05 V8, but am ready for the diesel.

You should have your dealer pull the commission # and check the build you should have a VIN # at this time. Also, have them check the option codes to insure the vehicle is equiped the way you ordered it. These things should not be secrets and your dealer should really be giving you a printout of the status and options for you commission #. Again, your VIN should be assigned by now!

The particulate filter is like a cat converter in the exhaust trapping contaminates converting them and/or then burning them off at very high temps

I did finally get a copy of the complete Vehicle Order, with Commission #, VIN, all production dates and option codes. All 4 destined to Florida are exactly the same (Offroad Gray/Teak - pkg 2 - nav - 4-zone climatronic - trailer hitch) and were unloaded at the port 7/06/06.

I was looking down the road to a worst-case scenario if the ULSD fuel is hard to find. Not a fan of the white smoke. So if the particulate filter needed to go, I have access to a shop that can make that happen. Same shop that will be switching out the sway bars to Cayenne TT ones.

On this particular piece of technology... I wouldn't mess with it.

As for ULSD... alot of refineries are making it... it's being pumped into station tanks now. It's going to take some time to get the "old" stuff out though.

When you pick up your V10TDI... you should be given all the info about issues with ULSD. The smoking won't hurt your vehicle... it's just a bit bruising to the ego more than anything.

TREGinginCO, I will be in your neighborhood in late December, on my way to Salt Lake to catch up with my son. Taking my new V10 to Moab and will compare abilities vs his new Jeep Commander Hemi. He hasn't beat me in golf yet, nor will he be the first to the top of the hill. BTW, being a new member, I could have sworn I read a very detailed break-in procedure for the V10, up to and including a comment that indicated this engine would not be "fully broken in" until about 60k. I have searched many hours for the thread at Clubtouareg, VWvortex and tdiclub with no luck finding it again. Should have printed when I had the chance. Have you seen this and if so where? With so many shortcomings in my '05 V8's manual, I am expecting the same with the V10. Any suggestions on where this procedure may be is appreciated.

I have not heard of anything like that. You should be receiving special instructions about the fuel when you pick up your vehicle, but it doesn't relate to break-in.

I will dig around and get info for you, but it will be next week before that happens. We're still here in Ouray on the rally. Here's a pick of the V10TDI R/T.

Thanks for the response. Take your time on the break-in search and enjoy the rally. Fantastic photo - someone's a fantastic photographer. Can't wait to visit some mountains soon.

From what I've read, nationwide distribution of ULSD will begin Sep. Refineries have already begun production as it takes about a three month lead time to get it in the system. One thing that you may have noticed already is that pumps must be labeled with the type of fuel being sold. To me it's funny to read the ones that identify the old 500 ppm fuel as a warning. As if now, after all this time, they realize it's something bad.

I know the refinery here in Denver started ULSD production in June and started putting it into pumps in early July. I wouldn't be surprised if other big companies were doing the same. The problem is, it's going to take time for the "old stuff" to flush out.

Basically, everytime the station's tank needs refueling...it's getting the ULSD, but because of the remnants of the old stuff... the PPM rating still won't be 15ppm or lower until all the old is gone.

Make sense?

The Official V10 Launch Date is September 2nd but I don't know what this means as far as all the V10's being released for sale. My guess is that they will release them in small #'s at a time and inform the dealers that they MUST give the customer complete training on what to expect if they don't have immediate access to ULSD.

Got the long awaited call this morning from the dealer - my V10 arrived at the dealer early. They are cleaning it up and I will take delivery on Friday. For some reason, the dealers are getting the 07 TDi's before Sept 1st, even though no service station in South Florida says the ULSD is flowing to the retail outlets. This is gonna be interesting! I will post pics this weekend.
