I opened the hood and this piece was just laying there.... No obvious spot that it looked like it came from. It looks like possibly some sort of cable housing.

I did have my hood release cable replaced a month or so ago. Any ideas?

07 V10 TDI.

Have you inspected it closely to see if there is a part number on it? Even the smallest bits always seem to have one. Then Google it.

There must be 2 holes in the inner guard or maybe firewall for those 2 lugs to fit into. Almost looks like a fuse holder or a connector cover. I'll have a look inside the engine bay tomorrow to see if there is something like it in mine. John

This is the hood release cable coupling. It must have been inadvertently left behind when you had the cable replaced.

The Touareg's hood release cable is actually two cables - one cable runs from the hood release bracket in the cabin (to which the hood release operator is attached) to the release coupling and the second cable runs from the release coupling to the hood release latch.

Part 18 is the cable from the hood release bracket in the cabin to the release coupling. The release coupling is actually the "under-the-hood" end part of this cable.

The guy looking for information on threading this cable through the firewall is me. I stumbled upon your forum message because I broke my Touareg cable and I need to replace it. :(
