I'll be getting one. Ever tried getting a 19in wheel and tyre off your roof rack without scratching paint or denting your car(or hurting yourself in the at the same time).
Also i dont like putting a muddy damaged wheel inside the car or on the roof.

the picture our dealer showed us is completly different from both pictures, it looks much better
the spare tire had an silver cover on it, with a VW logo and Touareg written under it

Thanks!! It would be nice to see the pic of the "real" external spare wheel.
The problem with mounting the whole system in a car without it from the factory would be that it would require to buy at least the rear bumper and it would be costy... when you know the price, please tell us, 'cos it is a very good idea when off-roading.

A good external spare tire option is the Curt hitch and a hitch mount spare tire carrier. This could easily be fitted when going offroad and doesn't take a 4 man team to wrestle the tire from the roof. The downside is that there is a slight loss of departure angle.

It looks like the parktronic sensors are covered by the relocated tag. And I expect our "squarer" tags wouldn't look as good as the euro tags on the examples shown.
