I have found out the touareg wheel at 19" is an odd size this means tires are more expensive.
Question is it bad for the car to go too a 18" or 20" rim.:D

You can fit 17s as well to your car.

I typically run 20 spring summer fall, then 18 in winter. I'm going to run 20s in winter this year just because I like the looks of them (18s perform better)...17s are fine if you like the look of a lot of sidewall or if you offroad, personally I find 17s look really undersized, especially on the current generation of Treg.

All to say you can run anything from 17" to 22" as long as you have the appropriate sized tires.

Here's a link to VW and Audi OEM wheels that fit our Touaregs.

The pros and cons of the normally available rims has been discussed here extensively, but in a nutshell, and keeping with a nominal stock tire diameter of just over 29":
The smaller diameter rims (17 and 18 inch) will give you a higher sidewall, therefore a more comfortable ride, a greater selection of tires at much more reasonable prices, and the ability to use snow chains on some of the stock tire sizes. These are favoured sizes of people driving in winter conditions, and of course, off road/back road conditions where reducing the tire air pressure will greatly increase traction, in a snow/mud/sand conditions.
The larger diameter (19 and 20 inch) rims are aimed at improving extreme high speed handling, by making the tire sidewall shorter and reducing sidewall flex. Very common on track cars and high end autobahn cruisers. This comes at the increased cost of tires, a harsher ride, and reduced selection of tires. Of course, the larger rims have the "bling" racer appearance factor, which is currently in vogue.
The key thing is to match your wheels and tires to your particular driving requirements, Touaregs are very, VERY, capable vehicles, just don't be let down by an unsuitable wheel/tire combination, because, as they say, "It's all about how the rubber meets the road!".

Wheels

I recently replaced the tires on my 08 V8, installing a set of Toyo SII Proxy. After about 500 miles their great just like most of the reviews. It's not a stocking tire, I had to wait a couple of days not a big deal. Here in the Boulder area we've had a boat load of rain, wet traction is about as good as it gets. I had Michelins on it previously which were good also, but they were soft and only lasted about 20K.

Don't feel that you can't get a good 19" tire. The tire installed from Discount Tire, cost me just over $1500 that includes lifetime rotate and balances. I bought tires for my MINI S and other vehicles and always had good service from them.

Can't speak to the 20's but I can say that the 18's on my Sport look equal to or better in the wheel well to the 19's on the Lux.

Of course rim and paint color affect the judgment as much as I'd like to just compare the rubber.

I'll soon find out what 18's look like on the Lux... If I have time i'll do comparative pics.

Yes, that's what I run, 20's for 5 months in summer, and 17's for logging roads, and inclement weather the rest of the year. Performance ĂĽber alles!

VW has offered Touaregs with 17" and 18" wheels since inception in 2003. Either of those size rims will fit your Touareg without fitment issues. In fact, the 17 and 18" wheels are much, much less subject to the shaking steering wheel balance and install issues, than any other size rim on Touaregs, Porsche Cayennes, or Audi Q7's

JMHO, but I think the 18" wheels on my 2013 Sport TDI look plenty sporty and efficient.
Picked this up at Strong VW in SLC in July 2013.
