I was wondering if an external battery charging system could be used on an '04 V8 Touareg. I know the battery is under the seat, but can you use the posts in the engine bay?
More charging issues.. could be the alternator this time.

Yes.
You can use a trickle charger/conditioner on the engine posts to keep the Touareg starting.
Will help combat drain while parked, but not going to help much if your alternator is the issue.

Make sure you use one with enough power though as many are underpowered for the Touareg.

You can search and find some info in the forums.

CTEK chargers work really well- Amazon.com: ctek battery charger

My battery issue was linked to the kessy module. May want to look into that.

You can actually mount this device under the hood, which is what I did when not in use, and just run the charging cable under the car.

As for a jump starter, this is the only one I found that worked for my car. All the others wouldn't crank it over.

FONZI... nice info. What is the reason for your using these items?
The charger looks like it is "inline"... thru some other outside electricity source?
The Starter is just that a Jump and external power supply, but not a charger in One...

I also leave it to charge over vacation times and what not, when it sits for over 2-3 weeks.

Mine came with a kit and I just kinda modified it to fit, I did have to cut some of the parts that came with it to fit the charging prong/whatever it's called. (Or you can just leave the alligator clips on, whatever you prefer. I would use some electrical tape to fasten it).

The thing is bullet proof from what I read. It's fine in freezing winter weather or rain. It handles the Touaregs engine heat pretty well also. The CTEK chargers are surge protected so will not damage the electronics on your vehicle.

Then when you would like to charge it, just undo the plug and hook it up. I cover the plug up when not in use. It just easily drops under the engine and it's long enough to reach a outlet in the garage or outside. A couple of zip-ties and 2 small holes keep it sturdy.

If you don't want to mount it in the engine bay then you can just hook it up and close the engine bay with the wires sticking out the side.

I think some auto makers like Mercedes sell CTEK chargers with their logo on it if you get some kind of package on the car, or if you buy it from the dealer. (It's $150 and I don't even think it's the top-of-the-line CTEK).

Seems like WeatherTech also has a similar version (copied?)

As I said, try and get the problem fixed. I thought mine was the alternator also. Kessy is well-known to drain the battery. Which was for me about once or twice every two weeks. This wouldn't be worth it if you don't really let the car sit for a while.

Not sure if the later Touaregs like the 2007's had the kessy issue. Maybe it's just a worn out battery but they shouldn't go out so soon. An alternator job seems pricy. Find a local VW/Audi specialist. They would do the job a lot cheaper than the stealership.

My car was in the stop for about a month because they didn't know how to correctly set up the module, so after about corrupting 2 modules they finally succeeded. I didn't mind because I only paid for the module due to the long amount of time they took.

The jumper is an all in one. It has a cigarette lighter also. (Charge your phone if the power goes out?) It gives you a percentage of how much battery is left. You only hook it up to a power supply to charge it. "Schumacher PSJ-2212 DSR ProSeries 2200 Peak Amps Jump Starter and Portable Power Unit".

The jumper costs a bit more but I personally prefer it. If I'm in a parking lot and I cannot hook up the CTEK or wait for it to charge the battery I can just get the jumper out of the boot. It's started lots of strangers cars also. Beats getting out the tangly jumper cables. If you go somewhere for a while and find that your battery has gone flat, then you're screwed.

+3 for the Ctek, nothing better......looks like the Weather Tek is a China knock off

Stuart.......

+4 for the CTEK. I have used it over the last 3 years (for an Audi TTS, Tiguan and now the Touareg), and it does a great job with no prolems what so ever.

Fonzi? Is the 3300 Sufficient. I am thinking that I could also use it on my on the floor Sears battery (while my project is in the becoming phase).

Anyway guys. The Latest is . . . what I had an idea it was and that is... The Compass got shorted! The Dealership under VOA is going to do the work.
$1,400!!! I am interested in finding out whether it really is just that.
The dealership helped with the Kessey... which seems fine now, but wasn't before.
I'd recommend in the future to anyone buying a used car to stay away from Fleet Vehicles!

The Compass itself? The Module which the Water Ingress shorted, is $400 ~
Most all of it is labor on the headliner... I am liking this Inline Charger.
Good Idea...I remember the old box style Battery Chargers... so outdated.
This is a very technically useful devise.
We'll see if its just this Compass Module... But having a devise that can help is useful.

Ended up being $1,200 - - I am just hoping that the problem had occured because of the Water Ingress, which I think it is. The Extra Info allowed me to Realize I never use the GPS-- looks Ridiculous... when I have a completely good phone that knows where I am @ and can tell me where to go! This Will Suck if the Radio/GPS starts to draw!
I think I am investing in these other Power Solutions! But it still puts a lot of fatigue on a Big Car V8 -- sucks some Power!
