Have already tried fleet discount and it was a disaster. does anyone hafve any hints or tips on getting a better deal.

many thanks

Tried Corporate discount?

Would you care to disclose which dealers (& prices) you have visited so far?

So that's $96,473.80 USD from 92,500 AUD (Australian Dollars)?

And we thought the Touareg Hybrid was expensive at over $62K USD ... I'm assuming to buy a UK or other RHD version is simply too costly and/or prohibited to bring in ... what about European delivery and shipping? I guess we simply don't know how much we have an advantage here in the states were many can get a decent discount on T-Reg's despite the few numbers that are sold here.

Europe, Germany my Country Even the TDI with full option is arround 110.000$ Hybrid 130.000$. Thats why many europeans by cars in US and ship them here..
I saw recently one 2011 american market touareg priced here 80.000$, Used with 40K miles..

Thr truth is the euro has depreciated compared tu US$, but it has always been like that.. In US my cousine bought a new T2 when I bought mine used T1 for exact same amount of money..

If the touareg was produced in Mexico, or China for US market I would say its because of the cheaper manual labor.

Options. Our vehicles come with more fruit than what is supplied in the US market. If you look at the 1st post that vehicle comes standard with air suspension, 4xMotion, napa leather,9 airbags, satnav, high discharge lights, remote hatch, 20" wheels, etc.

Then add on a host of taxes :-(

Thanks, How the heck ya buy a car for 100k, never able to in my day, enjoy!
Try the R50 with reversing camera and electric tailgate as options when new in 2008 was just under $150,000 AUD. That's 5 years ago. If you'd asked me before then if I'd ever pay that much for a car I'd have laughed in your face but drive it and compare with anything else out there, even now and , well, perspectives change. John

At least in the states dealers make money even if they sell "at cost". Hard to haggle on price for a popular car model. If dealer won't budge on price, consider asking for (examples) tires, wheels, car washes for 4 years, VW accessories, free or reduced services costs, anything they can purchase wholesale and "sell" for retail. They'll take the delta as profit.

Remember - they have to make a living too - just not all of it on one transaction with you. :) I got a little over $1500US (about 12%) off the price on my used 04 V8. When the sales guy pushed over the price he wanted on a piece of paper, I crossed it out and wrote my own amount and pushed it back to him and said "That's the most I'll pay for this car." Sales guy said "Why you do that to me? I have to eat." I said "You wouldn't respect me if I didn't. I have a family to feed too." I got my way.

Here's the thing about haggling - the other guy has to come out ok too AND you have to be prepared to walk away if you don't get what you want.

Good luck!

Australian Pricing is all about VAG being the distributor. There is no reason Australian prices are what they are except the company wants them that way !! We are paying the same prices as when our dollar was 56 cents US , now tell me VW and the others are aren't scruing us in the ar$e ? It is about not seeing the resale value fall and effecting new sales as well as gouging profits . If we had a smart government we'd allow inports from other RHD markets and this would be an instant cure.

Hi Ian, I got exactly the same quote in Melbourne - $92,500 - 2013 brown TDi 180, metalic paint with dark brown leather with only add on was the sun roof. I basically said I'm not here to haggle and you would want to do a fair bit better than that so give me your final and best offer. She said $87,500 and I said $85,500 with the Euro plates and we agreed. Took 3 minutes of my time and I'm pretty happy with that price. Ordered it and allegedly arrives in May 2013.

I don't get the draw for people to buy a brand new car... why not get a MY12.5 and save yourself 10K +

You will save yourself on dealer delivery (which is a ripoff), and numerous taxes... the car below is very nicely appointed and with 5K on the clock, it's still not even run in. New cars are a ripoff when you can get a demo and save this amount of money.

Sorry... try this.. 2012 VOLKSWAGEN TOUAREG V6 TDI TIPTRONIC 4XMOTION 7P MY12.5 SUV Cars For Sale in WA - carsales.com.au

There should be no reason why a confident offer for 83K ON THE ROAD shouldn't be considered... tell them its technically a year old car.. it is 2013 after all.

Confidence, and the statement 'I AM A BUYER, not a TYRE KICKER' has worked for me many times... also, if you are ready to buy, tell them you will sign a contact today IF they give you the right price. Start low and make them counter offer you. Don't feel like you are rude or being nasty. They will rape you for every dollar you have without a blink of the eye. Turn the tables and do the same to them.

Sorry Fizz I must have to disagree with your comments re buying a MY12.5 car over a brand new car and saving $10K.

For example the silver Touareg you have pointed out for $83,999 has 5156 km on the clock, the rego expires in 5 months, 18 inch alloy wheels and no air suspension or bi zenons - and that price doesn't include the on road costs.

For an extra $1500 I got one with 20 inch alloys, air suspension, bi zenons, a sunroof, no kilometers, 12 months rego, 3 year warranty and that price included on road costs. Not to forget the $5200 tax I get back for a company vehicle - so mine cost me around $80,000.

I agree you get a cheaper used car most of the time but not with that example of the MY12.5 you provided.

I think you missed my point. The car was provided as an example of what is available.

Ok... so in the quick 2 min search I was unable to access or speak directly with a dealer, but still able to find a car close to what was originally asked for at the beginning of this thread.

Let me also clarify a few things. MY12.5 come standard with bi zenons and air suspension and this one also has the sunroof option. So only difference is the 20in wheels. If you are buying the 4XMotion I 'assume' some 4WDing is in the plans, where the 18in are a far more suitable wheel/tyre combo anyway. 20in tyres also cost significantly more to replace, hence false economy in this case.

Yes, 6 months rego ($400) and the dealer is offering the full 3 year 175 000km warranty anyway. And as I stated, if the dealer is ready to sell, you can usually get the on road costs waived, as I have done on many occasions. The thread originator already stated he had no success for buying using fleet/corporate discount too.

Is your car the 4Motion or 4XMotion ? 85K is a very good price for a 4xMotion optioned as you state.

Perhaps you could be more helpful to this thread and put him onto the dealership where you got your car from?

Hi All,
First post and first time I've ever purchased a new car. Used Private Fleet. Specs went out in the morning to dealers Australia wide and that afternoon I had a price. Started at 100K and final price was 91K on the road delivered to my door with a full tank of fuel. 180 TDI 4Motion, metallic paint, Area view, Sports interior, Dynaudio and Comfort package. No dealer nonsense - yet. June delivery. Waiting for a Build number and a VIN. Understand the used / demo / taxes deal but I want to share a new car with my family. Once perhaps.
