I think you know I'm looking at buying a Hybrid.....

the emissions are simple ie: zero regardless of what I do to it when its on e power....
Indeed, but then again a lifetime's emissions went into the making of the batteries!!:D

Can you post, with certainty, about the legality of tunes, or remapping of chips in Canada, being legal for on road use in the provinces? Or provide some links from your government stating so, because it is my understanding that modifying the fuel mapping from stock is considered tampering with pollution controls, at least here in the USA it is. The ECM is part of the whole integrated pollution control system, including the flashed fueling, timing and boost software on it, at least in the USA.

I can't speak for Canada, I am not familiar with their Ministry of Transportation rules.
Canada's rules are very clear - any tampering with emissions controls or equipment is illegal.

Ontario goes so far as to provide a set of rules for "hot rods"...if you decide to swap out an engine or make modifications, your vehicle must meet the identical emissions to that of the original engine. So they are saying you can play all you want - just don't increase emissions:

Yes, the nickel mines where most of the world's nickel comes from are in Sudbury Ontario...about an 8 hour drive northwest of me. You haven't seen ugly until you've seen open strip mining...not to mention the transport and refinement costs to get the nickel to wherever the battery is made.

So yes the end to end environmental impact caused by hybrids is an interesting debate.

I'm interested in it for the performance and fuel economy...less so about being in anyone's face about driving a hybrid...and my reference was to increased emissions related to ECU tuning, not to total enviro impact.

It's okay, I didn't doubt WHY you were interested in the Hybrid!

I enjoyed my time with one just flooring the loud pedal from a standing start - it actually made me laugh out loud. Sod the bloody planet!!

In that case, we so deliciously damaged the planet last Sunday with some exceptional lamb chops. We also had garlic soup which contributed its own tiny little hole in the ozone layer... :)
Keep on suppin' that soup!!

Burp.

Ah yes, the definition of what is illegal and legal in our daily lives. Chip tuning aside, lets put some perspective on all this, keeping it real as I always do.

In no particular order...

1. Downloading music and movies for free from "those websites"

2. Traveling at 0.000000001 km or mph over the posted speed limit

3. Did I already say copyright infringements?

4. Getting paid under the table to save taxes

5. Urinating in public

6. Talking on phone while driving

7. Smoking and carrying weed

8. Not using your turn signal(I see this every single day and I'm sure you all do to)

9. I can go on and on...ah yes, stealing someone's pen when they are not looking ;)

To anyone from the Law Abiders Hypocrisy Group, and the Green Party on this forum, cast the first stone to us chippers if you are clean as a whistle (pardon the pun).

I wonder if you could just tune the Hybrid by other means. If you could find a company that could supply one how about just an overdrive pulley for the supercharger? I did this on a 91 Thunderbird SC I owned and there was a big difference in power that way. I went from stock of 8 psi of boost to almost 15 psi with quite the notice of more get up and go. Just a thought since you would not be messing with mapping at all. You may get a bit more with a high flow air filter and exhaust then. Of course things were a bit different with that car in that I don't know if there was ever a chip for it.

Guess you've got a guilty past...

I am clean on 8 out of 9 of those, might have kept the pen of my Realtor, but she kept 3% of the sale, too, and the pen is part of her advertising budget. Blue tooth phone is legal in California, just keep your hands free of the device. Retired, don't get paid under the table.

The turn indicator usage or lack there of is my biggest crime.

Porsche TDI vs VW TDI

As far as tuning goes I've been looking at the mild stage 1 tune of my TDI and if you look at the numbers this looks like the exact same power numbers of the stock Porsche Cayenne TDI output. When both vehicles come from the same factory with the same engine the only thing that has changed has to be the mapping or tune.
I know for a fact that they don't do anything else to the vehicle as far a emissions goes so why would a stage 1 tune of VW break any of the rules. Other than warranty..?

Niner should buy a Prius cause that seems more your speed. Never breaking the speed limit..... Wow... In Wisconsin if your aren't going at least 5 over at all times you are considered a bunch of words that many people would get offended if I used. (I've personally had 3 cops say that if your going between 1-10 MPH over you shouldn't get a ticket)

IMHO...
Prius drivers are people just like corporations are people. The only people that I have encountered that are soul less and completely uncaring as a corporation will drive 10 under the speed limit to save a fraction of a mpg and make 50 cars behind them late for work. They have a total lack of compassion empathy or caring for their fellow man and no person with a soul would ever do this to someone.

What motor model is in your 2011 tdi touareg? A "CATA" model motor. It's outdated as of 2012.

What model motor is in a 2013 Porsche Cayenne TDI?

A quick read here says... Gen II motor.

2013 Porsche Cayenne Diesel [w/video] First Drive

And your Touareg weighs 5000 pounds the Porsche, due to engine change, weighs in at 4795, a good portion of that weight loss in the motor.

Not the same motor...The new Porsche might only have 2 chains running the cams on the back of the motor, yours has 4 chains.

For your reading pleasure....

Sorry I'm not sure of the serial number on my crank shaft or the name of the cousin of the guy who installed it.
So they changed the materials used for the block and the Cylinder heads. Wow what a total redesign.
As for the other Reading pleasure it was nothing but my dealer said this, my sisters cousin said that, in Europe they do this. I don't think there was any pleasure to be had.
