I finally had the guts to send my ECU in to Malone for his stage two tune. Taking my ECU out took about 2 1/2 hours, but putting it back, 10 minutes. I wish I could have talked to somebody that has taken theirs out first, cause it would have help save about an hour taking it out.

The tune is what the car should be from the factory! Very little to no hesitation, torque pulls like a locomotive from the start to how ever long you need it, and passing speed is much improved. Very satisfied customer!

Mark does quality work. I too share your thoughts/experience with his tune.

whoaa whooa whoa...how long did it take? How much power? How does it work? I'm intereted
I took my ECU out on Sunday, FedEx Monday, tune in on Tuesday, sent back Wednesday for a Thursday delivery. It gives you plenty of time to detail your car:) go on Malone's web for power increases.

I also got a Malone tune for my 2012. I agree - less lag, more torque, and considerably more passing power (especially noticeable at higher revs). Verdict is out on mileage - the indicated numbers appear to have gone from slightly optimistic to slightly pessimistic. We'll see where things stand when it's time to fill up in a couple of weeks.

Overall I'm very happy. BTW I think the numbers published on Malone's site don't apply to the US version of the CATA. He told me that the basic tune I got gave me about a 15% increase for both HP and torque, which puts me at about 260hp and 470tq. It certainly feels like more.

Hmmm, this strikes me as odd. Most diesel tunes have the opposite effect where the main increase is in torque rather than HP. I know for my Unitronic tune this was the case. Why is the posted torque increase so minimal even with stage 2? I would love to have that HP with my Unitronic torque of 463ft/lbs! :)

Anyone planning to do a dyno run with this Malone tune to post up?

I am assuming the Stage 2 # ft of torque posted on the Malone IS one dyno result !?

Dynos will vary by 10% easily. Even the same dyno on a different day with different weather can read close to 10% differences with the same car. This doesn't even count the fact that different motors will respond differently to the same tune.

I am not saying the tune doesn't work, just that it is very difficult to know exactly what it will do for your vehicle without doing before and after dyno runs on the same day.

I just tried to apply a Malone Stage 2 tune to my 2013 Touareg TDI. However, the tech could not get past the security encryption on the ECU. I'll be sending it to Italy for the company they work with to hack into it. Will report more in about three weeks if successful.

Is this change in the ECU able to be detected by the dealer? My concern is obviously warranty issues.
Yes, they can definitely see if you have a tune, in fact VW/Audi recently started a campaign, they WILL void powertrain warranty if your car has a tune. Check some other forums, search for TD1, the reason why I didn't tune my Tiguan and will not even think about doing it on a Touareg, I am not that rich to pick up all powertrain related failures.

ANY tune can be detected if the people doing the detecting have the correct software and the desire to do it. For some tunes, the dealer software to detect them hasn't been written yet but, if there is a need (or a market) it could be. After that, it depends on the dealer/VW of America[or whatever country] and their desire to cop out on the warranty.
Technically, 'tunes' can get the owner (and, if reachable, the tuner) in trouble with the EPA because you are using a vehicle on public roads that has not been tested and certified to the emissions standards in effect on the date of production but I have never heard of this happening even in California with its environmental paranoia.
